I’ve never worked any of these jobs and yet I’ve never been mean to working-class people, is empathy that hard? -

My issue with this phrasing is that, especially for non-code contributions, you can't possibly know if and how it will improve things. So there's the risk of overthinking it while not doing anything like in this thread. Just do the things you like doing is plenty enough already, project stability be damned. -
hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Sunday, 22-May-2022 04:29:10 UTC hypolite @clacke @emacsen @mpjgregoire @fuchsiashock I don't believe you will go anywhere with your understanding of other people's beliefs if you yourself believe they can be wrong in the absolute. Sure, they can be wrong according to your own moral framework, but it doesn't say anything about them, it only says something about your own moral framework. -

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Thursday, 19-May-2022 00:49:21 UTC hypolite @fuchsiashock When you go back in time, you already know the path time will take between the infinite possibilities. So it doesn't seem strange to me that any change in the past would deviate from that unique path that may not be the ideal one for us, but it is what it is.
On the contrary, in the present, we are able to imagine an ideal future which more often than not requires sweeping changes to the structure of society and would, indeed, require an Herculean amount of work to bring about.
Basically we can imagine little acts in the past making massive differences in a mediocre timeline (but it's ours so there's a sentimental attachment). And we think the greatest effort we can put in at our individual level will not make any difference towards the ideal future we can conceive because it's so far out of reach. -

Replying or Quoting fuels the behavior that upset you in the first place, they are a double-edge sword you may not want to systematically wield. -

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Tuesday, 12-Apr-2022 00:27:26 UTC hypolite @me One of the greatest fallacies about proof-of-work cryptocurrencies is that they would somehow be "energy storage" because of the energy consumed to mine it, generating value that can be used to buy energy back.
Not the same energy, mind you, which is why cryptocurrencies definitely don't work as a battery, but the mental gymnastics to arrive at this flawed conclusion anyway is impressive to me. -
