there was a discussion about this yesterday, in the context of radio broadcasting. I think a combination of commercial labels and streaming services creates a situation where the remaining "new" artists are chasing much the same sound in the hope of making a career out of music, whilst music has become *less* important for many young people as they are caught up in a constant hustle to survive (I don't hear of as many young folk starting bands or becoming DJs as in 90s/00s)>>
its not an official sign, the one we get taught to look out for is like this - you usually only get them around schools - sometimes but not always with a 20mph (32 km/h) limit
given how slim the margins were for Brexit here in UK, I really wouldn't be surprised if as many as half the Russians do *not* want any war - also life for the everyday person in RU doesn't look /that/ bad (other than heavy authorities and dangerous roads) - and a war on the doorstep isn't going to improve things for anybody..
so far none of the reports of Google suspending accounts for using NewPipe have been proven (the reports appear to come from edgelord/troll types, including some from Northern European countries where if Google *did* do that and singled out users from those countries it would create a shitstorm across the whole EU). I have it installed on multiple devices although I rarely watch videos on mobile due to the small screens..
He certainly did build it, but its less clear if he was really in peril and may have gone to Morocco specifically to try this stunt.
He got a traffic violation ticket and a fine of around 450€ for "nature of vehicle not in accordance with registration/import documents" (to be fair exactly the same would happen anywhere in Europe to anyone who tried this on a public road)
its like a trade association here in Britain, I do some work for one which represents private health and social care companies as a secondment from my usual employer (who charge for my time at cost price). The trade association isn't meant to make a big profit (just to cover its costs) but it still represents the interests of private companies rather than any wider social change aim (although better conditions in health and social care are a positive thing)
@Eden these (and others) seem to be mistakes that Tesla *choose* to make (as they don't want to "kowtow to regulations") or even guarantee the same product quality as existing cars (I have an interest in car detailing and I've read a lot of complaints that the bodywork on a Tesla isn't anywhere as it should be considering how much one costs).
My VW apparently can play MP4s on the screen but the function is locked out and rightly so (as it would make the vehicle fail inspection here in UK)
@packetcat ISTR In UK they started chasing the big corporate market but ignored SMEs, then went to making lower build quality devices aimed at a younger customer base, some of whom used BBM rather like a mix of Signal and Encrochat with predictable results - after both drug dealers and political activists widely used the messenger handed over a fuckload of data to feds in about 2011 following riots in England; which killed their appeal with the "yoof" market somewhat...
@thomasfuchs I remember Acorn were always suffering from supply chain problems and delivery delays (which is to some extent why American computers slowly took over the UK market in spite of the Archimedes being a very powerful and capable machine)
@thomasfuchs I wonder if a factor at the time was that Acorn/ARM were still selling entire computers that were competitors to the Mac (particularly in education and graphics applications in UK and Europe?)
Trizin Hof also operates the dierenambulance and sancturary and collects geese from areas near roads and bike paths, so they don't menace humans nor cause traffic safety hazards, he has been doing this for the whole of NL for some time..
@snowdusk_ this Dutch family found a lonely Canada Goose who had lost his family (attacked by dog), they kept him as a pet for a bit but as he was getting lonely they found a partner for him at the goose paradise!
"Guus" is a boys name in Dutch, which sounds a bit like goose in English but with a bit more hissing at the start 😆
this sounds a lot like the tech research centre environments that were associated with larger telecoms companies until quite recently (where workers could spend time learning more skills and on projects that didn't have immediate commercial pressures), although this slack time/resources has increasingly been eliminated from the modern industry..
@resist_berlin@cypnk I often watch Die Sendung mit der Maus both to practise my German and for the technical/aesthetic quality of the Sachgeschichten - Armin still uses Arriflex 16mm cameras for his segments (especially the slow motion footage), but digital editing (hence no scratches/dust on the film) whereas Christoph uses digital equipment throughout (I noticed this on a behind the scenes doku)..
The extra high strength MDMA pills are in circulation again around the UK.
They can contain 150-200mg MDMA *each*. This is 3 times the normal adult dose.
If you or your friends take these (especially if you are experimenting for the first time) take only a quarter of the tablet, sip water regularly and wait 2 hours before redosing.
That could be the difference between a good time and ending up in the Emergency Department, or worse.
@enkiv2 almost half seriously wondering if its possible to build the Datenklo acoustic coupler (devised by the CCC in the 1980s when "legit" modems were way too expensive..) 😆
@plsburydoughboy I remember spending near £1000 in 1998 for a PC that could edit video (and you still needed to ingest from Hi8 or SVHS tape and then play the project back out to tape and had to be careful not to run out of hard drive space)
Last night at some strange hour I decided to watch youtubes of the closedown sequence of Bayerischer Rundfunk from (I think) the early 2000s.
They play the Bayernhymne, das Deutsches Lied and "Ode an die Freude" (EU-anthem)
During the Bayernhymne they show a young man in a suit using a PDA. This is whats on the screen.
Given what happened with Limux, its interesting to see this turn up there (although maybe not against the rules as German public TV can have advertising?)
