Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Thursday, 02-Feb-2017 23:56:43 UTC Temporary Marjolein Of course, not as simple as it seems... apps behave differently on a rooted phone than on a non-rooted one. And while I worked out how to export and import calendars, if there's a mismatch between 'owners' or 'organisers' events are not editable. #tomorrow I'll have to type out notes and then start on the server side. Progress... but also puzzles. At least I have the most important data, but some pieces (and apps) are missing (I suspect apps that were moved to the SD card did not get backed up). !grrr Anyway, it's bedtime now! -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Saturday, 28-Jan-2017 23:09:42 UTC Temporary Marjolein Got my new phone and installed the most important things that do not require transferring data from my old phone - but I'm having trouble suddenly getting used to Android 6.0 (plus I picked up a newer version of ADW Launcher which also takes some getting used to. Unfortunately, my favorite alarm app Timely consistently crashes on launch so I had to find another alarm clock. Now I need to find a way to transfer apps and data from my old phone in a way that takes the least amount of juice (if I can manage to even charge it!). !grrr -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Friday, 18-Nov-2016 23:40:35 UTC Temporary Marjolein Bedtime - after a day filled with lots of confusion and (only a little) progress. !grrr I really must sort out my database backup #tomorrow! Good night !tzaf !fediverse !tempfix -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Friday, 28-Oct-2016 07:36:02 UTC Temporary Marjolein Good morning !tzag !fediverse !tempfix. It's a light grey autumn day outside, trees are gradually losing more leaves (some of which flutter into my garden...) Also, I have a slight headache, part of the 'hangover' from the three-day allergy attack (which by now is actually not 100% over, !grrr) -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Friday, 14-Oct-2016 15:17:58 UTC Temporary Marjolein !grrr I just cannot figure out what I'm missing, but hplip doesn't detect the printer, even though I can connect to it with CUPs web interface, and I can ping it, too (that was even the first thing I tried). -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Sunday, 02-Oct-2016 10:25:41 UTC Temporary Marjolein Another problem: I started to use my "spare" mouse with #Tine. At first it was fine, but now it's starting to behave erratically again (which is what made me replace it on Dennis). now I wonder if it could be having interference from Wifi... Guess I'll have to go shopping for another #mouse. Again. !grrr -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Monday, 26-Sep-2016 21:40:38 UTC Temporary Marjolein !grrr I removed the DVD when the installer said it needed to reboot (it didn't warn me to *not* remove it) with the result I ended up with two entirely empty panels and 'add to panel' options not including what's in the default set up. So I'm re-installing now. *sigh* - I already had a headache before that, so maybe installing Ubuntu at that point wasn't an optimal choice. :( #learning -
Was noch? !grrr) -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Sunday, 21-Aug-2016 19:19:54 UTC Temporary Marjolein !grrr - Support for IPv6 is still wide and far between. Most Dynamic DNS hosts I'm trying are either not supporting it at all, or depending on an external script - looking at a Perl script now that needs a module not on my laptop. Since I'll eventually need to run this on the NAS, that isn't very hopeful. There's still hope, but this is taking far too log and it's far too complicated to do something that by now *should* be simple! #ipv6 #perl #networking #dns -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Sunday, 21-Aug-2016 11:46:09 UTC Temporary Marjolein I'm *very* unhappy with DuckDuckGo right now. Already as soon as they switched to Yahoo! "technology" I noticed an increase in irrelevant results - before, DDG was preferable for its relevant search results only. Today I did a search for [tiny VPS in Netherlands] (remove []), and on the first page alone I get two sex-related "results", one for an eye-care company ('VSP') and one for breadcrumbs at Amazon. WTF? The "VSP" might have been a typo in the page but I checked the code and "VPS" does not occur one single time. I'm used to DDG being far more to-the-point - I wish they'd go back to Yandex! !grrr #search Does anyone have suggestion for a better search engine? (NOT Google, that shows even more irrelevant cr**) -

Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Friday, 08-Jul-2016 22:01:03 UTC Temporary Marjolein Aaaarghghhhh! My whole email setup turns out to be a LOT more complicated than I remembered. I set things up (maybe) 'cleverly', and it all works. But now I've klet some domains expire, and I will need to demolish at least part of this whole 'building' - and of course before I can do that I have to understand again what, exactly I did, and why. Call it a good exercise, and I do want to simplify things (preferably without increasing spam load, of course) but I'm not happy. Anyway, it will have to be done: document, analyse, deconstruct, reconstruct (but simpler)... !grrr #email -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Jul-2016 20:34:59 UTC Temporary Marjolein Struggling to get all my email aliases and forwarding sorted out. Making progres, but it's far more work than I anticipated. (No, you cannot just remove an address that's the backup contact address without first assigning another address for that function - in a Google user interface that's so cryptic I still cannot use it after struggling through it a first time. Google is really brilliant in making user interfaces that make sense only to them - and then change them around every few months (i.e. just about when you figure out how to navigate it - so I have to keep updating my notes in KeePass on how to use it this time... !grrr ) And I really, really wish I could add notes to email aliases so I'll remember later wth it was supposed to be used for. NOT fun - but I promised myself I'd finish this before started on the funner jobs :-/ -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Thursday, 30-Jun-2016 17:48:30 UTC Temporary Marjolein !grrr I need a new mouse - two, in fact. It appears my current ones' electronices is still ok, but mechanically they are problematic, like no 'click' feel when I click, the pushbutton for teh battery compartment gets stuck, and both seem to 'eat' batteries (or rather, battery charges). And of course the two handy local practically-round-the-corner computer & electronics stores have disappeared. :( I'll have to go out #mousehunting #tomorrow. And a new fast battery charger is needed, too - two slots seem to be faulty. Giving up for today... I'm going to solve jigsaw puzzles on my phone ;-) -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Sunday, 12-Jun-2016 23:32:34 UTC Temporary Marjolein #https I'm using the "https everywhere" extension in Firefox. I just discovered a major logical flaw in it: sometimes a page jus isn't available as https, and you can change the protocol manually (back) to http. So far so good. But when you do this, it still attempts to load resources (such as scripts) via https - while you can pretty much expect they won't be available under https either - after all the main page wasn't written to support it. Result: a page that misbehaves badly because essential scripts (silently) don't load. !grrr It took me way too long to figure this out! For now I'll leave the extension disabled, for some sites I frequent this is just too disruptive. In addition, the extension cannot be configured to allow/disallow http for specific urls - another weakness. #logicalbug -
