Installing Ubuntu MATE on Tine (the new laptop)... !linux
-
@davehunt thanks, good to know. When would you be using the GUI (or what for) then?

!grrr I removed the DVD when the installer said it needed to reboot (it didn't warn me to *not* remove it) with the result I ended up with two entirely empty panels and 'add to panel' options not including what's in the default set up. So I'm re-installing now. *sigh* - I already@bob that about describes how I am (not) using Google (plus mail server for one domain, but not all). had a headache before that, so maybe installing Ubuntu at that point wasn't an optimal choice. :( #learning

OK - installed now! And while Bluetooth did NOT work from the live DVD (actually, crashed if I tried to do anything at all with it), it now works: external drive -> laptop <-> bluetooth -> speakers (too tired to check if that is a correct schema). Anyway, happy now, #tomorrow I can start on configuration! \o/

Well, #oops. Clearly, I'm not used to the Ubuntu installer. Result: I missed a beat and got everything installed in the tiny partition reserved for root... so I had to re-do the installation a third time. Much better now (and meanwhile I've learned where various configuration options are hiding - at least most of them. ;-) I have to admit I rather like Ubuntu MATE so far! (Thinking now I may install Debian + OpenBox on Dennis, since I cannot update or install anything from LMDE any more since the Mint servers were compromised: So I do need to (re)install *something*.)
