@silverwizard I don't worry about reshares to !Twitter any more than I worry about any other content that goes over the #Twitterbridge. My Twitter followers are already getting only a half side of conversations I have in the Fediverse, and name collisions between Twitterati and !Federati has caused several people on Twitter to block me. For one person who complained about this I set up a Fediverse account so he could participate fully, but he's never made use of it (too much effort?). I had considered shutting down my Twitterbridge to stop annoying those Twitter users, but since they have their own means to deal with it (join the Fediverse or block me) I no longer worry about it. I have some concerns about still using a proprietary, non-FAIF service like Twitter, but Twitter does provide me some niche benefit that (so far) outweighs my FAIF discomfort.
It depends where the focus is. in my view it isn't (that) much of a difference when people go away from !twitter to just join another beehive. For experiencing things it might be ok, but the focus should be to make it easily possible for the !fediverse users to run their own instance (and e.g. take their data from somewhere else to there). And, of course, @mmn is basically the only dev, he can't do all this alone.
@lnxw48 Similar trick: I copy'n'paste from !Twitter frequently; a URL will paste full-length, even when Twitter displays it truncated. Of course, "copy link" pastes as the t\.co short URL; you've got to copy just the text.
@jrm “(Is RSS going the way of the horse and buggy?)” I think some sites believe they can replace feeds with tweets. But if you’re not watching your !Twitter stream at exactly the right moment, you’ll miss the tweets. In my opinion, encouraging people to subscribe to a feed is one of the best ways to ensure that they see and know about postings and updates.
I think the #licence problematic would be "solved" by "muscle playing". I remember when I set up my !friendica how Mike answered me if I'd select another licence than the standard one, a la: "I'd #unsubscribe from you and would tell all my followers to do the same". Thus, to avoid the !twitter users would go with the mainstream licence and the others would "just be islands"
RT @edupossum @openscience, I've found syndicating from !GNUsocial to !twitter is a much better option than just living in twitter's #silo. You could, too. cc !gs
oh !twitter now spams me via mail. So, what's wrong with this: "Let's speak #privately. Now you can send private messages to groups, so everybody feels welcome. Trade tales, share Tweets, or plan surprises with multiple people at once."
