Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman@gs.jonkman.ca)'s status on Tuesday, 25-Feb-2020 22:45:39 UTC Bob Jonkman I too am with Canadian ISP #Teksavvy. I checked my bill last month, and was surprised to find it less than I expected. Apparently they lowered prices around November 2019. A couple of years ago they upgraded to unlimited/month at no charge. No way I'm ever changing! (is #Teksavvy somewhere in the !Fediverse?) /cc @guizzy -

MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Sunday, 17-Feb-2019 12:25:39 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ @tom79 I'm not sure what you're asking really. Do you want to know the endpoints for subscribing to a !fediverse user on !GNUsocial? If you do a #WebFinger lookup you'll get this:
curl -s https://social.umeahackerspace.se/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se | json_pp
...
"href" : "https://social.umeahackerspace.se/api/statuses/user_timeline/2.atom",
"rel" : "http://schemas.google.com/g/2010#updates-from",
...
The Atom feed, just like an PubSubHubbub enabled feed, has metadata for the subscription endpoint:
curl -s https://social.umeahackerspace.se/api/statuses/user_timeline/2.atom | grep rel=.hub
<link href="https://social.umeahackerspace.se/main/push/hub" rel="hub"/>
To this hub you do the subscription dance for the feed URI (i.e. the Atom link from before): https://pubsubhubbub.github.io/PubSubHubbub/pubsubhubbub-core-0.4.html
The activitystreams signalling - please note that this is optional, that is something else. -

MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Sunday, 27-Jan-2019 21:46:44 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ @clacke Consider if WebFinger lets you lookup URIs. This means if the URL is unavailable (domain expired etc.) data is still stored in the hive mind of the !fediverse. You wouldn't have to contact the original server, any server that had received the object would do. Wouldn't that be nice?

MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Monday, 21-Jan-2019 06:49:09 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ Yeah, GNU/FSF have never put any resources in to GNU social apart from maintaining the general !fs politics worldwide.
Originally Evan had startup grants, I just put in my free time (which I barely have any left nowadays) and @diogo got the gsoc stuff.
While I enjoy the !ostatus solution much more than ActivityPub maybr we should see what has been generated "outside" of !gnusocial .) Think of how many people have managed to find their way out on the !fediverse even if it's maybe not via GS specifically. But it's all AGPL .) -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Sunday, 04-Nov-2018 15:48:56 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ Of course you can't disable a remote server's functionality. Other instances will do whatever they want to do. Such is the !fediverse -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Friday, 03-Aug-2018 07:20:38 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ @strypey There's a difference between just trying to reach outside one's social circles and doing analysis of other peoples' behaviour (from which you adapt your communication strategies to maximise profit/outreach).
The !fediverse is open by design so users themselves can find, subscribe etc. interesting content. Sharing whatever content one finds is done via links of trust. -

MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Saturday, 21-Jul-2018 13:17:07 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ Yeah my point is that promoting statistics and analytics is a bad thing. Delayed posts etc. are other things that have veen discussed in the past. These "features" are not something that maintains a healthy social communication base.
Of course anyone can implement this. I just don't think it benefits or otherwise contributes to humane social spaces.
Bots are also an interesting topic of discussion that I think anyone developing for the !fediverse should put some thought and critical thinking into. -

Does anyone know if the history of the !fediverse is properly documented? Where can new users who are interested find out?

TomaTuOrdenador (tomatuordenador@gnusocial.villanos.net)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Mar-2018 05:46:15 UTC TomaTuOrdenador Hi! people at !fediverse
Until recent dates we have a reference to federated GNU Social nodes at fediverse.org.
As that domain it’s no longer available, I’ve recovered last update at Wayback Machine at archive.org (2/4/2018) and managed a little to publish most data here.
On that date there was 228 federated nodes identified. 123 are still active at end of Mars 2018, 49 with open registration.
http://www.tomatuordenador.net/fediverse/
Not sure about every data here, I’ve only checked wich nodes are active.
At least we can have a reference to know active nodes and to search for accounts and people to follow
