Just when you think the snow is going away... quite a bit fell overnight. I think I'll aim for returning to Groningen in the afternoon (not morning)... Meanwhile: good morning !tzag !fediverse & !tempfix!
!lunux !fediverse does anyone know what's up with linuxandfriends\.com ? The domain is active (whois) but doesn't resolve (ping). I bookmarked a web page there but now cannot get at it. Any ideas or rumors?
@lohang Then there is the fact that in many Asian cultures people tend to smile a lot more than in western cultures (a smile can be so much as an apology). But that "smiling" man in the last photo isn't "eating rice" - he's demostrating his skill at using chopsticks by showing he can hold a single rice kernel with his sticks. And that may be the actual reason he smiles. ;-) (2/2)
@lohang mostly, that's pure fantasy and conjecture. There's even a suggestion that people are "frowning" instead of smilig - but they aren't. And even with long exposure times it's possible for people to smile. It all comes down to culture - and in quite a few contemporary cultures having your picture taken is simply "serious business": people may be smiling and be relazed while you're talking to them, but as soon as you point your camera at them they immediately stand still, upright and the smile disappears. They'll smile at *you* but not at the camera - maybe that is the core of the matter. In practically all cultures people will smile at people (including you), but only in some they will smile at a camera. (1/2)
I managed to get up early again! Good morning !tzag !fediverse & !tempfix Now drinking hot water instead of !coffee because I'm not allowed anything before my checkup. Surprised that's quite doable - doing this #hotwater for the first time, but I find it's far better than just drinking cold water from the tap. :)
#hammock time! I'll have to be up early #tomorrow to go to a meetup on the way from Amsterdam to Groningen ;-) So, good night !tzaf !fediverse !tempfix :)
@bob The more decentralized the internet is the more resilient it is to censorship, and this is becoming increasingly important.

Temporary MarjoleinHad a terrible time last night (on arrival in Amsterdam) getting online: like in Groningen wired internet didn't work, and aparently I'd never used Tine (new laptop) via wireless here yet, so that didn't work either. Neither did my new phone. Haha security, only 'registered' MACs can connect. Luckily my old phone connected to wifi without and grumbles so I could get into the router from there and change settings so the new phone and the laptop could connect as well. #phew! But now that the wired connection doesn't woRk in either Groningen (it suddenly stopped working there) -or- Amsterdam, suspicion falls on the USB-C to Ethernet adapter I'm using. So maybe I should get a new (or 'spare') one... #networking (Did I explain this month already that I hate hardware? #ihatehardware!)
@vinzv yesy yes, I know - even worse: if you buy 2years now, the normal price applies for the two yers. The discount is only for one year. I've played these games before. :)
@chalkahlom I woke up briefly at 6am to turn off all the alarm cocks and phones, then turned around to get some more sleep ;-) So now: good morning !tzag !fediverse & !tempfix - enjoy the spring air, it's going to be colder the rest of the week...
