* I never notice the tubes, though I am aware of a tiny piece of scar tissue on the scrotum.

* I get around by bike, so there were a few weeks of having to take the bus everywhere while healing. So I deliberately scheduled mine for when we usually get the worst weather anyway. After that period, getting back on the bike was no trouble.

* That particular doctor gave every patient a little pocket knife as a memento, which made me chuckle.

@thraeryn Very similar experience for me > 10 years ago. Small differences:

* I used a private provider.

* No questions or hesitation about my not having kids, but they did [appropriately] want to make sure it was 100% clear to me that I should consider the process irreversible because vasectomy reversals are not guaranteed to succeed.

@oleksiy That's fair. Perhaps I'm biased here from having seen some rather over-the-top reactions against Russian culture locally, like cancelling performances of Tchaikovsky's music as if his ghost is profiting from the war somehow. And of course I worry about it more in the Canadian context because this country rounded up and interned everyone of Japanese or Italian descent during WW2.

@sng @carcinopithecus @oleksiy "nearly a German speaking country" is a pretty big exaggeration, but there were certainly predominantly German-speaking enclaves all the way from the Upper Midwest to Texas. My parents-in-law have a bunch of documents from one such village in Iowa where one of them had ancestors: marriage certificates, newspapers and prayer books all in German, from people who were not necessarily first generation immigrants.

actually my first statement was much too mild. If I lived in Kyiv, I'd be there cheering on the statue's toppling too. I feel more equivocal about things like taking Tolstoy's name off a station, but it's not my metro, not my decision to make.

and a bunch of Kyiv metro stations are being renamed from honouring Russians to Ukrainians. This feels more like "erasing history" than any of the tearing down of Confederate or colonist statues around the US, but I can't say I blame anyone involved.

@dirething I am definitely worried about where that leads, after the war. Not so much the tearing down of Soviet monuments--that feels more like a push back against colonialism than anything else--but how much the war will have strengthened the worst nationalist elements within Ukraine.

@human_dude I guess all I’m really saying is that these leaps are easier for me to understand than someone being antivax in the first place, which strikes me as requiring much bigger leaps beyond evidence.

For an anti-vaxxer who believes in the basic immune response stuff and still doesn’t want it: what’s left in the blood weeks later is the antibodies, not the thing that will trigger the immune reaction.
For one who just thinks it’s poison: the dose from a blood transfusion would be so much smaller than from a direct injection, in presumably relatively desperate circumstances.

@human_dude Yeah, I was going to reply to similar effect: I definitely remember the "friendzone" idea being a mainstream thing well before online forums were being used beyond a very nerdy niche subculture. I hadn't encountered that "ladders" imagery, and when I did buy into the basic idea it was less all-or-nothing. More like "once you have a friendship that is valued enough, it becomes too scary to try to make it anything else".

@oleksiy I’m all for the actually targeted and coordinated measures, like freezing assets, replacing gas supplies, moving prestige events, and locking the country out of SWIFT. But product bans on a whim of management aren’t that.
