@fitheach I watched the trailer for ghostdancer and only heard some original text from Richard II. It was read by a Star Trek captain. Very strange... :-) But yeah, it always takes me a half a play (maybe a whole one by now) to read Old Willy with only mild to moderate effort. And still, as you point out, words like 'let' meaning to bind or hinder v to permit/allow still will trip me up! And that one has a modern usage even. @ghostdancer
@fitheach And they could have some sort of gps tracker to highlight the location of the coffin or urn in real time on the display with constantly updating co-ordinates. I'm thinking of that bright blue-purple quantel puck the NHL gave USA viewers of hockey at first.
@homegrown Hi. I didn't see a list of only hosting, but just add-on suggestions after some services? Anyhow, the cheapest vps at contabo.com/en/vps/ * has now gone up to €5/mo, but that's still decent for what you get. Add in e.g. yunohost and you're done (b/c yuno will provide a free domain name too) I've used contabo and their included dns zone mngmnt for a bunch of years. I do know of a cheaper provider in italy, but... I can't recommend it. If anyone knows of something comparable to contabo in the uk, I'm all ears. * I intentionally broke it as a link, so as not to outright advertise for them
@homegrown It's not a matter of needing it myself, but of understanding it and promoting it to others. I keep lists of such things to help out others here on masto as things pop up from time to time in threads.
@homegrown Absolutely. And the fact that µsoft and apple have been putting simple choices behind scary 'Advanced' and 'Experts Only' warnings for decades means people are afraid of anything but clicking 'OK' - which they should be more concerned about. Yunohost is brilliant at accomplishing your goal for people.
@mhoye I need privacy. Not because my actions are questionable, but because 'your' judgement and intentions are.
And it doesn't matter whether or not my communications are weighty or frivolous in nature - they are mine and only for those whom I've chosen to share them with. Not the government's, nor goog's, nor my ISP's, but mine.
Also, what is legal where I live today, may not be legal tomorrow and my discussion of it may incriminate my future self. It has happened in the past many times to others in other places.
@mhoye quoting from notes: Do you have something to hide? 19. Nov. 2019 The Privacy Foundation @theprivacyfoundation
"Do you have something to hide?" is a manipulative rebuke to those that use #encryption. It would help us all turn this conversation around. Because, the answer is: YES, we do have something to hide. Things that we should hide, and must question why a government or business NEEDS access to:
- Medical history. - Sensitive conversations with employers, children, spouses. - Billing and banking information. - Purchase information. - Web search history. And more...
@eldang No. Despite my edu in telcom I really don't like phones much. I've been tethered to beepers, pagers and cells all my life. a few years ago I was packing around Three cell phones at once. Right now, I dont' even have a sim in my phone ;-) I had a 150/400 minutes left over after a year and telus basically stole them by 'expiring' them like old jam. I do use a housemate's landline very rarely and I have given that to the govt, because I had no choice. Otherwise, I'm very jealous of it and any cellphone I happen to pack around. None of anyone's business, but mine.
@fitheach Maybe you are a rain god and the clouds eagerly follow you about like McKenna's All-Weather Haulage. They want to party with you at the weekend.
@aral Geez aral. Obviously, I've read you, but I had no idea what a good speaker you are. Damn! :-) tbh, I usually scrub through 20min talks like that quite quickly w/o watching the entire thing. Yes, I've moved down the page and I'm considering another...
