@clacke and even if there was a programmer, they must've gotten bored with their project by now, or have completely forgotten about it, or are disgusted by how it turned out... *looks at his own former pet projects
@clacke so, the html in the link text renders fine on Fedilab for Android, but on #glitchSoc's Mastodon (multi-column) web interface it escapes the newlines.
(Ironically the thumbnail for this screenshot might be missing, but that likely is a separate issue on this instance that I need to report afterwards.)
@clacke yeah, I vaguely recall pointing that out a while ago, though that might've been to a different non-masto user.
It's why I still wrap my blockquoted text in angular quotes to make sure it also is clear on fedi instances and clients that don't support formatting.
e.g:
Β«this is an example of a blockquote.Β» ββ FiXato
And even on fedi instances that do support formatting, we sadly can't trust that they get properly converted between the different standards. For example you yesterday posted an image with a multi-line image description. Instead it just rendered like a link with the HTML for the formatting and linebreaks escaped as literal text as link text.
@LaCrecerelle definitely fair reasons. :) Then you'd ideally be looking for a VPN provider operating and established in a different country, preferably one that's unlikely to cooperate with yours I guess.
@vicorva and if they really feel like they need to cross-post, they should do it the other way around. Seeing posts that adopt Twitter's post length and lack of content warnings is what frustrates me the most about cross-posting. Lack of image descriptions too, but since Twitter actual supports them nowadays, that's more a cultural thing than a technical limitation. (Invalid at-mentions because they try to mention a Twitter account as if it were a local account are also somewhere on that list...)
(If one just wants people to read what one writes, without wanting to interact, one should just start a blog with RSS feeds instead.) @welshpixie
FYI her name and profile picture now seem to be current again after I followed her account from my Libranet account. @clacke@alfred can you confirm it's updated for you both now too?
@clacke I like the smell of freshly ground coffee, I like the taste of tiramisu too, even coffee flavoured cookies with my tea, but actual coffee can go down the loo.
But since my definition of 'real' includes 'whatever name I give myself and identify myself with', rather than just 'wallet name' or 'legal name a government recognises', I've voted 'yes'.
@human the 'real' in that part is still unclear to me though.
But maybe that's just my strong aversion to 'real' when for instance used to compare the internet to 'real life' when people actually just mean offline versus online. When using 'real life' to discuss offline life, it adds the negative connotation that interactions online aren't real, while it still involves real people on either side of the medium.
