I see more layers and details in it now than I did half a life ago and I'm just floored that it was released only a year after the first airing of "Expedition Robinson" (Swedish "Survivor", the first one to air) and a year *before* the original Dutch "Big Brother" reality show aired.-

I mean, fundamentally the whole idea is "how do we stop having to pay script writers?". -

Using Truman instead of an actor made the project incredibly costly for Christof and his investors. -

But surely that's where the original idea came from? The push of everything to panel shows, gameshows, ... -
Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jun-2022 17:51:49 UTC Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π @unixsmurf Ok, but Christof's show featuring Truman literally had script writers; "We're introducing a new love interest in the next episode". Their job was just more challenging because the main character was "authentic".
Anyway, the film isn't about why we have reality television, it's about now that we have it what it does to us, what it does to the characters, how different (or not) life is from a reality show, etc. -

And I wasn't talking about actors, I was talking about script writers. -

Watched it again one or two years ago, and it still holds up. :) One of Carrey's better roles imho.
(I do wonder what the film would've been like with John Malkovich in the titular role...)
