valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Sunday, 03-Jul-2022 11:39:17 UTC valhalla wouldn't a gradual change be *harder* to detect than a sudden one?

valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Monday, 27-Jun-2022 05:48:38 UTC valhalla @clacke evidently your favourite restaurant is owned by Loki
I wouldn't worry that much: if it was owned by a big chain it would probably be controlled by people that are more evil, anyway
Disclaimer: I may be biased in favour of Loki :D -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Monday, 06-Jun-2022 10:38:52 UTC valhalla @clacke The assumption that it was written by past you is of course only fair because it's based on the principle that one is much more likely to get heart palpitations from moderately bad code when they were the author, while code written by somebody else will have to be really bad to cause them. -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Tuesday, 31-May-2022 05:37:30 UTC valhalla @clacketoo many abortions!
if everybody went back to having a dozen or so children, losing one or two in a school shooting wouldn't be a good deal, would it? -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Monday, 30-May-2022 11:35:18 UTC valhalla @FLOX_advocate @LovesTha Also, if the event is (partially) virtual/remote please please please just add the times already in UTC: it makes it so much easier for anybody as they only have to apply their own known offset rather than having to calculate the offset difference first / using a converter. -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Friday, 13-May-2022 00:45:08 UTC valhalla @bekopharm @Johann150 @RyunoKi Attacks on PyPI (the one I know best) and the others based on the fact that anybody can upload a new package have already happened and will keep happening.
With npn it happens more often because of the higher visibility, of the culture of tiny libraries that multiplies the attack surface by a few orders of magnitude and other social factors. -

valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Apr-2022 13:04:24 UTC valhalla @opfez offline dumps of websites :D
books are useful, but before the internet was as easily available as today I've wasted a lot of money on books that were supposed to teach some craft, but were much less useful than what I later found on random websites. -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Tuesday, 19-Apr-2022 07:20:51 UTC valhalla @Elizafox nevermind not contributing to GCC, AFAIK he hasn't written any kind of program since the last millennium (nor he has kept up to date with the programming world) and now he's writing a programming manual? -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Monday, 11-Apr-2022 14:34:27 UTC valhalla @clacke @sotolf XML used right is XML that is completely parsed by some library and you don't have to see it ever, right? :D -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Thursday, 07-Apr-2022 16:39:29 UTC valhalla @jpmens @stemid that's also what I saw when I tried to write something that used ansible, and the exact reason why I decided to run the ansible command instead. -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Thursday, 07-Apr-2022 16:39:27 UTC valhalla @stemid ansible was installed systemwide, and sometimes there is a need to install a more recent version than the one in debian stable to be able to use their features.
Also, fixing versions in requirements.txt is pretty bad from a security point of view and is better avoided.
Anyway, if the authors of a library recommend not to use that library, I tend to read that as a strong hint that things will break in horribly to debug ways, and stay. away. from. it. -

valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Monday, 28-Mar-2022 13:48:09 UTC valhalla @fitheach @clacke More or less the same thing happened the last time somebody drove our car :D
Sometimes I wonder if I should just set the car clock to UTC :D -

valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Friday, 04-Mar-2022 10:20:39 UTC valhalla @astraluma @SuricrasiaOnline There are projects like the freedombox that aren't managed (as in: there isn't a person to call if something goes wrong), but try to make it as easy as possible to host things, and they run on pretty cheap hardware.
Freedombox is also available pre-installed, and while not extremely cheap it's in a range that is reasonably so for a middle-class (lol) household in the rich part of the world.
