valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Thursday, 20-Jan-2022 15:16:06 UTC valhalla @pho4cexa I don't know who coined the term, but this is what our LUG has been doing and promoting for quite a long time, running this server on the fediverse and an xmpp one for chats.
Both servers are only open to members of the LUG, but since we're all a herd of nerds some of us are also running other servers for family and non-nerd friends.
And of course on our servers there are people who would never be able to run their own server, that's why we run it for them. And there are other people who don't have the time or skill to run a server, but are perfectly able to admin their own server on some service like masto.host. -

valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Saturday, 15-Jan-2022 19:11:05 UTC valhalla @clacke @Azure The romans used to complain about the fact that germanic barbarians used to drink wine straight instead of mixed with water: I'm not sure how much of that was based on truth and how much it was just a way to say that they weren't civilized.
If it was true, then it's pretty much likely that the crusaders and Venetians, coming from elite classes that descended from germanic conquerors, also drank straight wine.
On the other hand, it could have also been the greek speaking romans keeping alive the tradition of accusing people of not being properly civilized. -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Sunday, 09-Jan-2022 19:19:47 UTC valhalla @clacke I've had a phone (not smart, it was quite a few years ago) die when I had it in my backpack during a bit of rain (one of the worst rains I've been into, I have to admit) while traveling (so no access to the usual drying methods afterwards).
Replacing it wasn't that expensive, so it wasn't a big deal, but for a smartphone that costs significantly more than that I wouldn't mind it to be able to survive an heavy rain.
Also, reading books on the phone in the bath, anybody? :D -

valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Monday, 03-Jan-2022 11:06:03 UTC valhalla @clacke @nosat btw, what do you mean “putting everyone one ventilators”?
in the first few months many people died because they started to informally try to keep the very old (80+) from entering hospitals to save the limited spaces for the merely old (60-80) who had bigger chances of survival, and there was a lack of medical staff per ICU compared to the standard (the former no longer happens, the latter I believe still does). -
valhalla (valhalla@social.gl-como.it)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jan-2022 14:34:45 UTC valhalla @clacke @nosatIn Italy there have been 15% excess deaths in 2020 compared to the average in 2015-2019.
And this includes the fact that deaths in the age range 0-49 was *lower* than average, with significant less traffic and work accidents.

That report was published on 5th March 2021, I'd expect a similar report for 2021 to arrive around the same time this year. -

I believe that editing previous posts has not been implemented by choice, to avoid confusing situations.
I'm not sure what reactions are, however
