Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Sep-2017 11:20:37 UTC Annah @clacke @cwebber I basically stalled development of my own shit for three months with trying to help someone who didn't want to listen make his shit work with the existing network. After a while, I'd had enough. -
Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Sunday, 03-Sep-2017 13:19:41 UTC Annah @strypey @clacke I wish to add an important factor to consider in this discussion,. speaking from personal experience in my former practice: a lot of the people pushing for behaviour regulation drugs, in particular BPD, ADHD, and OCD medications, are not healthcare professionals. They're teachers with discipline problems with their students, parents who can't cope with rebellious kids, and the like. I saw many an individual whom we would not consider to have a mental disorder with people behind them pushing for medication. These medications are often used not as a curative, or a preventative even, not to treat a condition the prospective patient has, but the laziness of the individuals around them. -

Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Saturday, 02-Sep-2017 16:07:06 UTC Annah "Comcast has sued the state of Vermont to try to avoid a requirement to build 550 miles of new cable lines. Comcast's lawsuit against the Vermont Public Utility Commission (VPUC) was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Vermont and challenges several provisions in the cable company's new 11-year permit to offer services in the state. One of the conditions in the permit says that "Comcast shall construct no less than 550 miles of line extensions into un-cabled areas during the [11-year] term." Comcast would rather not do that. The company's court complaint says that Vermont is exceeding its authority under the federal Cable Act while also violating state law and Comcast's constitutional rights:"
Nothing is making you have to operate in that State, Comcast, nor do you have an automatic right to do so. You essentially are being asked to provide something in return, which apparently you do not want to do. -

Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Sunday, 20-Aug-2017 21:15:21 UTC Annah Someone's bad behaviour never justifies your own bad behaviour. You have a personal responsibility for your actions. This is something that people never like to concede. -
Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Sunday, 20-Aug-2017 08:34:58 UTC Annah @bob It's a low impact way to virtue signal that doesn't actually address the problems they claim to be tackling. This is pretty common in corporate PR. -
Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Sunday, 06-Aug-2017 22:41:49 UTC Annah Honestly, I don't have much interests in dabbling in the inter-instance politics. If you want to block this one, we're better off without you, if you don't well, congratulations, you figured out the strength of a federated, decentralized network. You can't suppress opinions or divergent thought here easily. -

Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Friday, 02-Jun-2017 01:24:57 UTC Annah @sungo In games review, just to pivot to the thing what I actually do for a day job, I ask a few questions:
A: Does it work properly on the platform, ie is it technically competent
B: Is it it what the audience for this game would want? Why or why not? Is that reason a valid one?
C: Is it worth the asking price?
D: Does it achieve what it set out to do?
There is plenty of room for "popcorn" games and films. Just as there is plenty of room of niche or "arthouse" games and films. They are not mutually-exclusive and it is not a zero-sum game. But there is a such thing as "good" kitsch films and games, and "bad" ones. -
Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Friday, 02-Jun-2017 01:12:51 UTC Annah @sungo Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with many film critics personally, but game and film creators who blame the critics for poor works that don't sell seems quite stupid, frankly. -
