RDN will still be going when the rest of the fediverse is a post-apocalyptic wasteland where salmon are the currency of choice and people fight an endless unremitting war with @takeshitakenji 's robot army. It is eternal.
Hoping to maybe get something organized for postActiv for the next LibrePlanet. Blame @cwebber :)

Annah@tn5421 1: Tags allow you to attach hashtags for yourself, it's a discoverability in the search thing. 2: Actually the nsfw tag on mastodon is like that - SensitiveContent came first :) 3: Dunno, I wouldn't, it's a legacy GS feature we keep around in case someone wants it. 4: I have no idea, I've tried to debug that on five seperate occasions and to all appearances it should work properly but it obviously doesn't. 5: Nope, OStatus has no post limit and if you enforce a limit on posts in accepted notices you break federation. Most instances set it to what's sensible for their own community, but they should accept posts of any length.
That said do be considerate of the fact mastodon smooshes the message into a tiny column if you message someone there.
@deadsuperhero The question in my mind would be: what do we get out of adding it that we don't already have? What if anything would we lose?
This is part of why I want to modularize protocol support on postActiv. It lowers the cost of testing things like that, so you can experiment more freely.
@dredmorbius @eileenb Really, an admin that deserves some attention and praise is Hannes of quitter.se. He's been steering that ship for a long time now, many years, and always kept things steady. He's also weathered several twitter migrations to quitter itself with grave.
Please be respectful of what you repost into the network timeline, since it can get people on other instances in hot water, as we saw with Soykaf. Also, please don't repost stuff that isn't properly NSFW tagged. If it's not consistent with our policies and from the network timeline I can't help that, but reposting it puts it on OUR timeline, and then we have a problem. I'd rather not have problems, so be considerate.

AnnahI do think that it can be pretty jarring for newbies to come into a space with such strongly disparate communities communicating freely across the federation. We have all kinds here, literally, from shitposters to social justice advocates to channers to programmers to just average Joes and Janes. Just remember we were all a newbie once :)
@gameragodzilla @ajr I often end up CGP Grey's video about "Angry Germs" because it's an explanation of that combatitive psychology that is in layman's terms, and most people can understand. The two sides "fighting" basically need each other - they derive validation from the "fight" to oppose the others. It's why the remnants of GamerGate are themselves just as ID politics-ridden as social justice types, for example. That identity has become crucial to them. Their "battle" with social justice has become their constant source of validation.
