I think China is rightly focusing on the developing world where people know the cost of dealing with the west first hand. Those people aren't being taken in by this narrative.

So, it's just the west that keeps seething, but the problem is that the west is also economically dependent on China now.

@AgreeableLandscape @SeanAloysiusOBrien I think there is a benefit to them expanding into China in the near term as this holds back the possibility of naked aggression by the west.

This allows China to avoid spending resources on the military the way USSR did, and direct them towards productive purposes instead.

Meanwhile, western empire is already collapsing, so all China needs to do is wait and keep doing business as usual.

@clacke @greenpete Belarus is a perfect example of the point I was making in the original toot. When Belarus had protests challenging the government, western media was gushing over the protesters and demonizing the government.

Yet, when a similar type of protest happens in a western nation then it's the protesters who are demonized.

imagine the kind of reporting we'd see in western media if this happened in designated authoritarian country like China or Russia

This is the linchpin the west uses to claim that liberal democracies are a superior form of governance.
