☆ Dmitri ☭ (yogthos@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 19-Feb-2022 19:27:25 UTC ☆ Dmitri ☭ @AgreeableLandscape @SeanAloysiusOBrien completely agree with that, of course the problem there is that it opens a can of worms since western record on human rights is less than stellar.
I think China is rightly focusing on the developing world where people know the cost of dealing with the west first hand. Those people aren't being taken in by this narrative.
So, it's just the west that keeps seething, but the problem is that the west is also economically dependent on China now.

Whenever someone brings up any of China's achievements, they can simply point to their accusation and say "at what cost". This gives them free reign to cast China as the villain no matter what happens, and absolves themselves of any pressures to emulate any good that China is doing, because in the narrative they created, China can never be good.
