@rw @gameragodzilla GOG's versions run if you don't have the stupid version of Windows what Gamera has, source: I have them myself and am on Windows 7/CentOS.
@sklaing Obviously, dismantling the welfare system is NOT the answer to that kind of abuse, but it does happen here, and I can share those people's frustrations with it happening, I just do not agree with their proposed "fix", if I'd even call it that.
@sklaing It's somewhat dated complaints now. It's funny people get on about our former Prime Minister Stephen Harper so much, to me anyways, one of the objectively positive things he did was simulataneously make it harder for people that are intentionally trying to abuse social assistance to do so, while at the same time adding *many* programs at the federal and provincial levels to aid different groups at need. Unemployment assistance is much greater, there is essentially a basic income through the Works program, and things are in general pretty improved.
At the same time, what we call "welfare bums" are a very big problem in Canada. There's people who manage to take the government for a lot of money all while making money under the table. In one very infamous case that gets cited a lot by people who want to dismantle the welfare system, one person was making six figures from online funding (paypal "donations") all the while claiming welfare benefits.

AnnahPart of the reason why I get sometimes so upset, and kind of actually bitter I must admit, over stuff like people coasting on social assistance or living it up with iPads or iPods or the like, is that the people that don't really need it, and use it for that kind of thing, were taking money out of the hands of people who actually did need it. Like a younger me. I got denied assistance when I was homeless. I'm not going to pretend that doesn't colour my perceptions there.
Going to have to find out what's out there other than mediagoblin though, because I think Mediagoblin can only be properly installed by the multi-angled ones whose existance in this dimension can only be expressed through a mathematical equation.

AnnahThe thing about Twitter is I never feel like I am missing anything anytime I go to check on it. It's the same constant, unremitting spew of people talking without speaking and listening without hearing. There is no conversation. Just contests over who can shout the loudest and score the most points.
@clacke Whether a person is or is not worth the time is ultimately a judgement call, but I prefer to reserve my limited time and resources to bettering the people I care about, such as my loving wife or my handful of close friends. I kind of don't understand the deep importance some people place on internet acquaintances, and I say that as someone who, having the medical condition she has, communicates mostly via said internet, even with most of her close friends. But the obsession we see on say Twitter, of trying to fix or more accurately probably, make random acquaintances conform to our own image of what we feel is best, is quite vexing.
If someone I don't know on the street comes up and takes a swing at me, I'm either going to reciprocate, or I'm going to keep walking. I apply the same principle to functionally-similar activities on the internet.
@clacke Not everyone is worth the effort of educating, and its not my responsibility to fix the people who wish me harm.

AnnahI don't care about understanding an attacker, really, except insofar is required to repel them. This basic principle applies to many segments of life. I do not have time to waste upon people whom would injure me, my principles, or the things I value. I do not care to fix them. In most cases, I care to destroy those assailants.
