Christmas Personified as a Catgirl (moonman@shitposter.club)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:28:43 UTC Christmas Personified as a Catgirl @gallux89 @rw It's kinda disappointing how slow its been developing since 2013. -

Adam Moore (LÆMEUR) (laemeur@gs.sdf.org)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:50:04 UTC Adam Moore (LÆMEUR) Indeed. Looked very promising a few years ago. I assume Evan didn't want to press its development once he started co-chairing the W3C Social WG in '14, and even though it's open-source nobody wanted to take the ball and run with it without Evan directing development. -

Christmas Personified as a Catgirl (moonman@shitposter.club)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:21:56 UTC Christmas Personified as a Catgirl @rw It's a thing that was created after GNU Social that fills a similar niche. It's both better and worse in different ways. -
Frau Maiya (maiya@shitposter.club)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 19:53:25 UTC Frau Maiya @vriska @fl0wn @normandy @wakarimasen se was mine too kind of, but that was a long time ago. I tried it before I originally got on twitter but liked twitter better until recently, and when twitter went to shit recently I found out you can run your own instance with the source software and thus community.highlandarrow.com was born. -

Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 19:43:43 UTC Annah "The site was down most of last evening, at a time when Kurt Eichenwald's story detailing how Donald Trump's company broke the law by violating the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba was being covered extensively by prominent cable news programs. Our IT team is still investigating the hack.""
So many things to comment on here in such a small statement
A: If you get a lot of coverage you get a lot of traffic
B: Legitimate traffic spikes are not a DDOS attack, because they are not intended to bring the site down.
C: You were covered by several major news agencies of course your site got a lot of traffic.
D: A DDOS is not a hack. It does not achieve remote access to a server.
E: If your IT people blame not being able to withstand an obvious time of high traffic that is legitimate on hackers, fire them immediately. -

rgggn (rgggn@quitter.se)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 19:16:47 UTC rgggn The 140-character limit on quitter.se is driving me nuts. Is it possible to migrate an account to a different server? !gnusocial -
Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:23:16 UTC Annah @moonman I have much the same attitude. It's fine if he doesn't want it. Its just its absolutely no skin off my back to run one or even multiple instances of pumpio on a 16 core dedi server with all the ram and disk space I got. If I don't hear back from him I'll just put up my own since I want to test ways to properly make pumpio and GNU social/postActiv federate. -
Christmas Personified as a Catgirl (moonman@shitposter.club)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:21:17 UTC Christmas Personified as a Catgirl @maiyannah Maybe he wants to keep it among people that are already established in the community, who knows. If he's not interested in giving me stewardship of one of them, I'll just start my own (I plan on making a new one anyway since if I took ownership of one, I wouldn't change the character of it.) -

Annah (maiyannah@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:42:13 UTC Annah @moonman @karasu This was the way with Statusnet originally I remember, and you can actually still find some references to this being the case in the code even though it was obviously changed. -
Christmas Personified as a Catgirl (moonman@shitposter.club)'s status on Saturday, 01-Oct-2016 23:35:15 UTC Christmas Personified as a Catgirl @karasu if I take over one, I will retain the same rules and policies. If I start one, yes, NSFW-friendly. By default posts are private, which makes that sort of thing easier to deal with. -
