Well specifically they're opposing implementing the Google-led "File System Access API" because users accessing their local files, not involving a third party web server, == OMG INSECURE for some reason.

I think everyone here understands that it will not be good for the browser ecosystem if Chromium effectively becomes the new Internet Explorer (of the 1990s), marching ahead with non-standard APIs. The frustration is that Mozilla devs seem to be so entrenched in the box of "any file access is a security breach" that genuinely useful and well implemented draft APIs are getting almost summarily dismissed. ..>>

This is public health. It's a thing. It's how sewers and food health inspections got created. And we've done mandatory mass vaccinations before. At least if you were born before the 1990s; I don't know what happened to kids after that.

Nope, I don't see how it's just or tolerable in a democratic society for 1% of people to cause mass death and for the 99% to just roll over and accept that.

I'm sorry. That just doesn't compute for me.

We have vaccine mandates here in New Zealand, we like them, we're using them right now to literally prevent mass death, they're working. Period.

Are a bunch of angry far-right agitators angry? Yes. Did a bunch of them get mass arrested yesterday? Also yes. Is that wrong? No.

So now I understand what the Canadian Ambassador Bridge trucker protest is about (it's an antivax thing), so if you're in support of that, sorry, I'm blocking you.

Public health is good, pandemics that have already killed millions of people are times you need coordinated social response, and vaccine mandates save lives.

Well yes Noam, that's not news, I grew up in the 1980s with the threat of nuclear war, they *were* willing to murder us all. Made very rational plans about how many millions of dead there would be in the streets.

But.

The other side of the equation is that the Soviet Union wasn't better.

Specifics? Not personally. I just remember IMC rapidly becoming like a proto-QAnon for anti-Bush people. It was full of unsourced rumour and just nonsense and I learned to ignore it.

Eg I think it jumped on the "9/11 was an inside job" conspiracy train fairly early on. That sort of thing.

I hope someone has done a proper historical retrospective / postmortem on it. It was a fun movement, way ahead of its time, like an unmoderated, angry Youtube. Needs study.

Wasn't Bucky hypnotically programmed against his will, much like a Red Widow? (If not using the exact same Hydra technology).

If so, why does he have to go and "make amends" to all his victims, as if killing them was something he did freely, yet the Widows go become freelance killers for hire and get our sympathy?

I feel like TFATWS chose to use Bucky as a symbol for something else rather than as a character.

The scandal - if true - is that they weren't just bugging the Soviets but also allies. Same old, same old. Also that they somehow didn't properly buy the software, which seems weirdly cowboy even for Reagan's Team B, but it was the 80s I guess.
