LisPi (lispi314@udongein.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 09-Jan-2024 01:14:09 UTC LisPi Sometimes I see projects with massive code problems that I feel I should rewrite in Common Lisp for sanity's sake.
But then I come across the problem of them either using some C cryptographic library or worse, having homebrewed something.
I am not a cryptographer nor any sort of relevant expert, so even discounting for the side-channel related things difficult to address in CL (e.g. timing attacks), I still don't feel confident at all even attempting to reimplement that. -

Or considering just how absurdly finnicky time gets when one gets into the depths of it, why they improvised something instead of using one of the standards by folks who bothered to try and deal with all the edgecases & annoyances. -

Sorry if you've relied on that subtle interface hint for the past 35 years.
Huh, I've been using keyboard-driven stuff long enough I didn't notice the disappearance of mouse-hover focus-notification in so many GUI toolkits.
That does seem like a regression to me. -
LisPi (lispi314@udongein.xyz)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 08:22:35 UTC LisPi @emilygorcenski @crashglasshouses @rl_dane Oh yeah, the current trend of just making everything into a custom special UI snowflake just makes discoverability and quick usability a mess. -
LisPi (lispi314@udongein.xyz)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 01:06:27 UTC LisPi Any #SelfHosted #forge with a small number of dependencies & implemented in memory-safe language my followers or anyone else would recommend?
Forejo has a rather nasty amount of dependencies. Sourcehut also has more than I'd like. -
LisPi (lispi314@udongein.xyz)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 01:06:24 UTC LisPi Is anyone even working on some legitimate use of blockchains or is it all just cryptocurrency grifts at this point?
It's annoying to read some project blurb talking about resilient distributed projects and then when I read ahead it's all just cryptocurrency. -
