Feynman lectures are the first one that comes to mind.

π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 00:44:43 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± True but irrelevant. No one is suggesting a person do 40 hours worth of work in 5 minutes. I'd also be very curious to hear how that would even be possible.
Kinda obsurd we went from "yea a salary worker might occasionally need to do work outside of 9-5" to "oh my god is he working constantly and going to die from lack of sleep and his organs will shut down!"... lets stop being absurd.

π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 00:10:36 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± Salaried employees are expected to make a fix amount no matter how much they are paid. That is the bargain.

π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 00:10:32 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± They literally get that back in equal measure. While a salaried empl, oyee doesnt have fixed hours or an hourly rate, and may be expected to work extra hours for free, they also get paid time off. When they take a day or even a whole month off they still get their full pay. It works both ways.

π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Saturday, 09-Dec-2023 02:44:55 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± The thing this is missing is that most people want others to suffer not simply because they happened to turn out fine, but because they believe that suffering **is the reason** they turned out fine. They see it as something that builds character.
Not saying their right, just saying you cant fix a problem by misunderstanding it.

I am a good and better person than I was, this horrible and significant thing must make people better people! It is the only thing that gives what was done to me meaning!"

Isnt this:
human decency recognizes the absolute right of people to have private conversations without government eavesdropping.
An example of this
rights organizations making pragmatic appeals against internet surveillance

π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 14-Jun-2022 10:42:07 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± Actually just buy less gasoline and non-renewable fuels, the production of plastic will automatically reduce regardless of its demand (the cost to make it as a primary product would be prohibitive and it just wont be made even if there is demand since the price would be enormous).
-
π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 14-Jun-2022 10:31:12 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± @Gina That is true, but plastics are weird in that they are a secondary product. So by not buying it you dont really reduce the rate they are produced. Even if no one bought plastic the plastic would still be produced and just thrown away never seeing use since its a byproduct of other primary processes.
-
π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± (freemo@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 14-Jun-2022 10:31:07 UTC π Doc Freemo :jpf: π³π± The problem is since plastic is a secondary product off nonrenewable sources (natural gas and gasoline) you have no impact on reducing production by reducing consumption of plastics directly. You'd have to stop the production of gasoline and natural gas to have that outcome.
