The Republicans claim Democrats want to defund the police. Itβs not true, but what is true is this: Republicans want to defund the IRS, which is the revenue police. Enforcement agents are needed to catch wealthy tax cheats, of which Republican donors make up a large share. So when you hear about defunding the police, remember what Republicans are trying to pull off.
Oh, so NOW Trump says that Sidney Powell was NEVER his attorney? Funny how he called her that when she was busy spreading election lies, and when he wanted to make her SPECIAL COUNSEL to investigate non-existent election fraud. But now that sheβs pleaded guilty? βI BARELY KNEW HER!β
Hahaha!
Trump better think about this, though. If she was never his attorney, then there was NEVER attorney-client privilege either.
Now it looks like the No. 3 Republican in the House, Tom Emmer, is the new nominee for Speaker. This comes after McCarthy was deposed, and Scalise and Jordan both failed to get to 217 votes. Emmer asked for a roll call vote among his conference, and he looks like he is still more than 20 votes short. And look, Democrats would work with Emmer if he would agree to bring the budget and Ukrainian funding to the floor for a vote. But so far, he doesnβt want to dance with any Democrats. A bipartisan solution remains elusive, so the Speakerβs chair remains empty.
Letβs not forget what Kevin McCarthy and the GOP choose to spend time and resources on this month: a baseless impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden and attacks upon the Justice Department for doing its job.
Instead of passing the budget they already agreed to this spring, they waste time and taxpayer money doing the bidding of extremists within their ranks, all while careening toward yet another government shutdown.
We must vote them out next fall. As many as we possibly can.
Itβs now clear that Leonard Leo, Ginni Thomas and Harlan Crow conspired in the wake of Citizens United, where Justice Clarence Thomas cast a decisive vote, to unleash over a billion dollars to reshape the judiciary in the mold of the Federalist Society.
The result is now an extreme right-wing Supreme Court that has overturned abortion rights, environmental law, and affirmative action. And they are far from done.
Notice that not one of Trumpβs defenders in the GOP actually says he is innocent. They just say he is the victim of a politicized system. They are essentially saying that a guilty person shouldnβt be prosecuted when heβs a powerful politician. Who here thinks thatβs crap?
