laurelrusswurm (laurelrusswurm@s.russwurm.org)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Jan-2015 20:26:25 UTC laurelrusswurm Dear !GNUsocial developers . . . The “Old School” setting was added to #StatusNet software was to appease unhappy users by giving us back our hierarchical tree conversations.
The attached screencap displays what a hierarchical tree conversation I can have looks like when using the pre-GNUsocial StatusNet software set like this:

I’ve just learned GNUsocial’s Old School Setting does not have this functionality:

I understand you folks are hackers, but as a user I can tell you the point of social media is to socialize which is why conversation is key. Without this important feature, replacing my StatusNet software with GNUsocial software would be a downgrade. Surely that is not your intent. I very much hope you plan to restore this, and in truth it ought to be the default.
If GNUsocial aspires to being the premier social media software, helping users to communicate clearly and effectively is key.

Live convos among 5 people can be crowded too :) -

laurelrusswurm (laurelrusswurm@s.russwurm.org)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Jan-2015 20:54:17 UTC laurelrusswurm @chimo That makes no sense at all because it just makes using it harder. Once upon a time hierarchical conversation was the default. -

Years ago, it was the primary thing that set #Identica and #Jaiku apart from !Twitter. laurelrusswurm repeated this. -
Erkan Yılmaz (erkan@fediverse.com)'s status on Thursday, 08-Jan-2015 12:01:31 UTC Erkan Yılmaz ideally, threaded view should also be available for not-logged-in users, so people from !twitter and so can be convinced much better to join. cc @chimo @lnxw48 laurelrusswurm repeated this. -
laurelrusswurm (laurelrusswurm@s.russwurm.org)'s status on Thursday, 08-Jan-2015 16:41:01 UTC laurelrusswurm @erkan I really hate that as a user. I don’t want to see the other view; if I did I wouldn’t have changed it. -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Thursday, 08-Jan-2015 17:27:29 UTC MMN-o ✅⃠ The reason it's not enabled by default is that it's probably better to remake that plugin after freshening up the general code output, rather than having double maintenance (since threaded views in third party clients like #AndStatus aren't affected anyway). -
Temporary Marjolein (mk@oracle.skilledtests.com)'s status on Friday, 09-Jan-2015 18:06:08 UTC Temporary Marjolein @laurelrusswurm I have long argued that the hierarchical view should be the default for everyone, logged in or not. Not only would it be generally more user-friendly, but it would show off one of the best features of SN. laurelrusswurm repeated this.
