It's one thing to know that you're supposed to develop new habits. It's another thing entirely to teach your subconscious mind to follow that up even when you're relaxing and your mind is elsewhere. The subconscious mind is a rather slow learner and doesn't adapt unless you're very persistent with it for a very long time. Also, it doesn't really care unless it gets a reward. It's not very different from training an animal, except the animal is you.

I keep running into references to Matlab when I'm researching computer science. I've never even touched it, and there are times when you want to calculate things like matrix products, dot products, integrals and derivatives or find simplifications or equivalents of equations, and it gets a bit clunky to try to input it all into Wolfram Alpha's search field. I imagine that Matlab would be handy for such situations.

I can spend ages in a grocery store isle trying to make the optimal choice. I can spend months trying to pick a vacation spot before failing because none of them seemed good enough. I often put off decisions until it's too late because I can't make up my mind. How do people make decisions quickly? My brain is overwhelmed wirh pros and cons. Sometimes I just pick randomly because I can't make an informed decision.

Bad: In Norway, a third of that is taxes, the other third is rent (if you want a decent apartment within the metro area of a city with more than one room and no roommates) and the final third is food, transport and other boring stuff. For the fun stuff, you're going to have to save up, or take up a loan.

In 2 years, a song from 1990 will sound just as old and outdated to the teens of that time. I can tell that it's happening already, because whenever I play what was hip in the mid-1990s to a twenty-something, they'll remark on how it sounds "old school"...

Just as there are far more ways of tangling a rope than there are ways of rolling it up neatly, there are far more ways of doing the wrong thing than there are ways of doing the right thing.

The sort of person I'm talking about won't display empathy if you bring them a personal problem. Instead, they will ask you a completely tangential question that forces you to think rationally. They are like mental chiropractors fixing a kink in your brain's neck by snapping it into place. I love it because it's so effective. I hate it because someone is cleverer than me.

If you read romaji with Norwegian pronunciation, it will more or less sound like correctly pronounced Japanese.
The errors would mostly be things like mute U's not being mute, and vowel clusters turning into diphthongs.
Japanese always struck me as almost Indo-European in its phonetics, if not in its vocabulary, when compared to something like Mandarin or Tagalog.

Students in East Norway will often accidentally write Swedish words on their Nynorsk assignments because they're so lousy at it. Many young people want it to go away and never come back.

That's my problem with Norway. We're not best at the things that I care about. We kind of suck, basically.

The survivors are pretty angry about it. Nobody knows why it's taking so long. It only took 4 years for the idiots to plan the Oslo Opera House after they had decided where to put it—an opera house that nobody had asked for. Our politicians used to come from working/middle class backgrounds. None of the current lot have done a honest day's work in their life, and it shows. Worthless assholes in suits.

We live in a society with an abundance of calorie-rich foods and lack of physical exertion, and are wired to prefer it that way. More people are becoming overweight or obese. Scientists and doctors seem to think that the problem is a lack of information about healthy lifestyles. I think the problem is that we are addicts to our unhealthy lifestyles. You don't tell an alcoholic to "simply drink less".

- Refuse to relay a message without end-to-end encryption and a digital signature
- Require unknown senders to solve a cryptographic hash problem per message
- Require a TLS certificate from a CA on both sides of any connection
- Use 8-bit attachments (no Base64)
- Drop HTML in favor of Markdown
- Not support external embedding -

They all clearly took it from Latin. Something else happened with "window" (English), "vindu" (Danish/Norwegian) and "vindauge" (older Norwegian); they kept the old Germanic word, roughly "wind-eye" if decompose the word into its constituent parts.
