We may laugh at all the ridiculous diets people try, but they're a sign of desperation. We live in a society with an abundance of calorie-rich foods and lack of physical exertion, and are wired to prefer it that way. More people are becoming overweight or obese. Scientists and doctors seem to think that the problem is a lack of information about healthy lifestyles. I think the problem is that we are addicts to our unhealthy lifestyles. You don't tell an alcoholic to "simply drink less".
