hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2024 13:34:16 UTC hypolite @clacke @blakeisawolf A while ago I read that this program doesnβt allow companies to write off donations made this way. I donβt blame anyone for suspecting foul play but it is apparently legit in this case. -

It only applies to individual words in English, but you can calculate their key which enables you to find words with close pronunciation. However, it is absolutely not collision-resistant.

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Dec-2023 00:16:21 UTC hypolite @clacke @emilygorcenski I went through it and while it's very well written, it's mostly a history of stuff I was already at least partially aware about, which made its read easier than what "9,000 words" can let believe in the first place. -

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 01:28:42 UTC hypolite @clacke @tfb French AZERTY keyboards have dedicated keys for Γ©, Γ¨, Γ , ΓΉ and Γ§. US International keyboard requires combination presses, like ` and then a for Γ , β then e for Γ©, etcβ¦
This makes it easy to write accented capital letters by combining with a capital letters, while French keyboard dedicated keys donβt have capital versions like you said. For example Shift + Γ© gives 2.

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Dec-2023 00:57:21 UTC hypolite @mdhughes @clacke The conquest of the Americas is a good example. After a push from Europe, the settlers eventually rebelled against their former monarchs and started doing their own thing locally. I imagine this would likely play out the same at an even bigger scale. At some point, colonies are so far away from Earth that the latter cannot exert any direct control over them and they start to self-determine their future. -
hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Dec-2023 00:57:20 UTC hypolite @clacke @mdhughes Yes, but it wasn't a unified push coming from Europe anymore, it was a local effort which may have slowed it down significantly. -
hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Dec-2023 00:57:18 UTC hypolite @clacke @mdhughes It could be exponential if it's planning is centralized. The problem with space is that there's a lot of nothing. On Earth we enjoy a balmy 30% of stuff compared to 70% of "nothing", but in space the ratio becomes absolutely ridiculous, even before accounting for livability.
So you'd first need to bring life support systems to the remote planet, and then somehow all the infrastructure for space travel if you'd want to jump to the next planet without fully developing the first one?
It sounds unlikely to me.

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Saturday, 02-Dec-2023 10:02:23 UTC hypolite @clacke Iβm sorry you had to find out the hard way, although this kind of βfeel old yet?β social media posts has never been relatable to me. Iβm not sure why I am among apparently few people with a minimally distorted age appraisal ability when it comes to people, music and movies?
Itβs like for most people, things donβt age until they are actively reminded about how old they are, and so have a puzzlingly hard time conceiving past things aging gradually.
Is this supposed to be a marginally hard/rare skill?

hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 07:46:34 UTC hypolite @clacke Funny thing is, when there were clocks everywhere, I had a wristwatch. After I got my first handheld phone, I dropped it, but I didnβt realize the omnipresence of public clocks made this change seamless. Now I almost systematically have to pull my phone from my pantsβ pocket just to check the time which has become a significant, even if trivial, bother. -
hypolite (hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com)'s status on Friday, 13-Oct-2023 07:46:31 UTC hypolite Pretty sad that in my (relatively short so far) lifetime, public places went from having clocks everywhere to almost none at all. Train stations, airports, restaurants, theaters, plazas, etcβ¦
