Constance VariableHow can there be no ads? Because your admins are paying for the servers and run them as a hobby. It's not crazy expensive, but it does take up free time. They still do it because they enjoy the communities that develop. These instances are free with no ads because nice people are running them as a gift for you because they like you. Now, is that better than Facebook's or Twitter's business model or what?
@csaurus for now, pleroma speaks the twitter api. It should work with friendica and twitter, too, although I haven't tried it. In the future, I'll probably make it an activitypub client with a Twitter api -> AP layer for compatibility.
The pleroma backend will speak the twitter api, ostatus and activity pub.

Constance VariableIt's nice, all of the media ignored federated, user-run social media for nearly a decade, now that the twitter cool kids club joins one instance, it's revolutionary and the next big thing? All it took for 'tech news' to pick this up was a tweetdeck layout (familiar to marketers) and a 'no Nazis allowed' sign (even though the quitters have had the same policy forever)?
I'm open to talk and discussion, but so much of this is just incredibly disrespectful to the users and developers who built the technology, network and community over the years.

@schestowitz Quick! Post on Facebook, Twitter, Gab.ai, Instagram, Snapchat, G+, Ello and Tumblr about how much you hate it when people sell your data to advertisers!
