"Just hours after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to 'root out' Twitter, graffiti has been popping up around Istanbul with two IP addresses anyone can use to circumvent the government's ban"
@cmhobbs I've tried and failed to re-join FSF a few times. Every time I do though (via their site) my bank account gets suspended literally within seconds of clicking the submit button. I eventually gave up and instead became a member of the Software Freedom @conservancy
I only stopped being an FSF member simply out of poverty and then tried to re-join again once I had an income.
@lnxw48 @clacke @quix0rquitter unless ZFS is relicensed to GPL or whoever has the rights to ZFS (Oracle?) grants the Debian project a special license the situation is unchanged.
Made !gnusocial and #Hubzilla T-shirts, so during the summer I can shamelessly advertise some of the projects on #Freedombone. The Hubzilla one is all blue with the white logo and name. Gnusocial is black with the big red logo.
@clacke @cmhobbs that's surely a function of the difficulty and expense of running a server with federated systems. I think when that's a lot easier to do that distribution will change.
@clacke @cmhobbs I don't think that federation leads to centralisation, but that some big companies operated the usual "embrace, extend, extinguish" method on email or XMPP.
@clacke @cmhobbs centralised federation seems like a contradiction, although maybe #hubzilla is such a system. Anyone can run a hubzilla server, and you log into other servers via magic auth. The authentication is sufficiently automated that the user doesn't notice and so hubzilla appears to be one giant system.
