So, I went to a repair shop; they told me the microUSB post (by itself) cannot be replaced, you also need the module as soldered on the board - and that's not standardized, and they don't have such modules for THL. Second-best solution I'd thought of: an external #charger for the battery. :) Yup, they had that - with two batteries, I can charge & keep one while using the other one in the phone. Problem solved. :) it's charging now. Not fast, but who cres - as long as it charges the battery!
@leny that does look interesting, except that the Qualcom chipset gives me pause. I'll have to dive into that to see if I can get the see functionality I have now (notably, changing IMEI - which is a snap with MediaTek utilities). Anyway, this goes on my list of possible candidates. Thanks!
@mmn Yes, the ethical aspect is important - but for me functionality comes first. It's not just about "technical specs", it's about the actual use I make of it. My current phone was carefully selected for just that. But forget about "interpolating" pictures. You can never get a better resolution from a lower one: you can get more pixels, but the image will be fuzzy. JPEF is lossy, and information that's no longer there cannot just be re-created out of nothing. More pixels gives you more to work with. The difference between 8MP (Fairphone) and 13.3MP (THL T100s) is huge. When buying my current phone I actually gave a better camera (2, even) priority over 4G support. So now I'm looking for a camera that's at least as good _with_ 4G support (and, as mentioned, absolutely dual-SIM, and MediaTek main chipset). I *use* these features, they're not just "nice to have".
@heluecht OK, that got me interested. So I looked at further specs... and it isn't quite up to what I'm looking for (apart from the essential Dual-SIM): quadcore (not ocatcode), and not a MediaTek chipset (which I prefer); 8MP+2MP cameras instead of 2x13MP (which I have now - that's a big difference!). Also an old Android version. OTH it does have 4G. I'll put it on my shortlist, but I'm afraid it needs to grow up a little more. @mmn
@zoowar just go to someone's profile page and add "/subscriptions" to the URI (or "/subscribers" for the reverse info). Such things *used* to have actual links in the UI, but they disappeared around version 0.96 or so.
It's getting light outside... Good morning !tzag !fediverse !tempfix In other news: my internet connection is regularly crapping out again - in spite of the new powerline hardware :(
Bedtime! a bit early but I still have a little sleep to catch up with :) Goof night !tzaf !fediverse !tempfix #tomorrow I may go to see a movie (or more), and hopefully also get my 'old' phone repaired. Hopefully we'll also get to see a little sun - this weather is way too sombre.
@lnxw48a1 You'll hear a lot of English-anguage music on Dutch radio, period. Even a lot of Dutch bands do English-language music only. Still there are quite a few singers here in the North who sing (and write) in Grunnegs - and this regional radio is the station where you can hear a lot of that, as well as (some) other content in Grunnegs. Unfortunately, subsidies have been reduced recently, and the amount of Grunnegs content has been reduced as a result. :(
@lnxw481a To make it really fun, what you're hearing here is *both* Dutch and Grunnegs. The presenter speaks Dutch (during the interview he mentions he might be interested in learning Grunnegs as well), so is the news (on the hour and half hour), but the lady who gives the weather forecast - after the news - speaks purely Grunnegs. And during the interview both Wil and me speak (mostly) Grunnegs while the presenter speaks Dutch with a few words in Grunnegs here and there. ;-)
