Based on what he said at the time, he felt that it was too difficult to evolve #OStatus's component specs (mostly designed & controlled by Google) once Google decided that #federation and interoperability in the social space was no longer desirable (coincides with the launch of #GPlus). On top of that, his company was losing money (at one point, it was ad-supported, but users rebelled against the most lucrative ad provider, Google), and most SN users relied upon him for zero-price hosting.
@clacke #California offers vote-by-mail (postal "p-mail"). I think I've only voted one time in person since the middle of the #1990s. Every other election has involved a paper form and a postage stamp.
@benfell @zoowar I never understood how the "foreign-born Marxist Muslim" thing ever got going. Besides the kind of birth cert that was readily available, there were birth announcements in Hawaiian newspapers. Was his family supposed to have planned his election since the #1960s and not have had the foresight to actually let him be born in USA? #bizarre and #stupid, IMO.
@clacke Am I correct in thinking this allows sites to create shortcuts on my device's "desktop" without asking me? Any site that infests my devices will lose me as a visitor.
@jaywink@iliketoast.net That is *very* bad news. I switched completely to #MariaDB because #Oracle was making proprietary-like moves with #MySQL. In one step, MariaDB Corp has leapfrogged Oracle. I won't say they've gone #evil yet, but this is definitely not a positive development.
