@andstatus and there is more here that I don't understand - user shown as 'web finger ID'? I see lots of @mk and @andstatus...; 'alternative notification icon'??? what is an 'notification icon' in the first place? I think we need a manual for the settings, and discuss defaults.

@andstatus looking at the Settings available for syncing and at https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/64 I don't see a way to NOT download attachments automatically at all. If wifi is on, and 'download over wifi only' is on they get downloaded. I don't want attachments cluttering up a timeline, just a link or thumbnial that allows one to download/view on demand. New issue?
-
@mk @andstatus this is what I want to be able to avoid: an automatically downloaded image inserted in the timeline. I understand this is what some people want, but others (like me) want only a link or at most a small thumbnail so it's easier to browse through a timeline. http://oracle.skilledtests.com/attachment/61787

@mk @andstatus note how in this vv dent Mustard inserts only a link to the attachment: no clutter in the timeline.
-
@mk @andstatus issue created: Provide an option to NOT automatically download and insert images #234 https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/234
-
@luvo I don't understand what you're asking - kan you give an example maybe?
-
@andstatus maybe the wording is not clear but that suggests I won't be able to see them at all - I want to be able to see them but only on demand.
-
@luvo oh,I see - doesn't it remember your setting once you choose 'Everything'?
-
@luvo open the drawer and tap on 'Home' - that will show a menu which includes 'Everything'. Tap that and see if it remembers that setting
-
@luvo yes I just tested it and came to the same conclusion. So we need a Settings option to choose the Default timeline! @andstatus

@luvo @mk Added a new issue "Default Timeline setting" https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/236
Please discuss there

@andstatus great; I added a comment. and !tzag! :)

@mk Many of your recent questions are not specific to !andstatus, but are about Android design and terminology.
I agree that some users may only start learning Android via figuring out how AndStatus works.
This is exactly why we created FAQ for in a form of "Questions" in the Issues section https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues
As I see it now, User Manual will not be too long, but it will have links to these Q&A, allowing not only to read, but to ask and to take part in discussions.
There is a ticket on a User Manual enhancement https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/229
-
@mk If you want to create a "AndStatus settings" manual, you may do this. Please start with a "Question" issue...
-
@andstatus I've been using Androd for quite a while now and I'm not aware of any question that would be general Android and not specigfic to AndStatus. As to terminology... maybe. But then the question is whether end users (as opposed to developers) should be expected to understand all terms (or even be confronted with them). The people at Google are great at technology but horrible at UX.
-
@mk I know Android terminology only because I'm a developer...
-
@andstatus :) so a 'translation' or terminology may occasionally be needed

@mk /s/or/of/ !grrr
