this deserves wider attention: cc !gs !gnusocial !copyright

@simsa0@micro.fragdev.com It would be cool to implement a metadata tag for each notice which holds the license. There is no place where that is currently stored in the database however. And one might also ask themselves if notices we publish here actually are granted the status of "copyright". At least in Europe, you need a certain level of unique artistic expression for a work to be protected by "upphovsrätt" (founder's right, our copyright).

Pictures (except avatars) aren't federated anyway, they are just linked. And afaik linking is still ok, except for TPB.
-
Also I think it would be fun to resent copyright in its entirety. !gnusocial

@simsa0 Implementing distributed authentication is in the current state of affairs overkill. Also, there is no way you could verify that the random thirdparty node you're using is actually trustworthy. And you'd require some weird supermagic that barely the non-web world hasn't figured out how to do user-friendly. This is a subject which requires years of research and hundreds of computer scientists and cryptographers to work together..
I know there are networks (#RedMatrix) who claim they do this in a way that they don't think is dangerous to the enduser's privacy or data integrity. I have not inspected their solution thoroughly, but I have strong doubts to the legitimacy of those claims.

@simsa0 Fuck the legal conditions #Copywrong

@simsa0 I may have misunderstood something and replied to something which wasn't actually implied. I'll have another look tomorrow. Good night for now .)

@simsa0 I think the point of the TOS on #quitter.se is that if you're not willing to accept that benevolent monarch, then you should start your own kingdom. I like it, though it might sound a bit harsh or unfriendly.
I mean, there's no reason you should trust someone random on the internet to run a gratis service for you and expect them to heed your wishes or even to keep running the site for more than a week.
With reservations for me misunderstanding stuff due to tiredness. Now I'm gonna sleep fir reals.

I assume you told your community also about this change? they might not be aware of this
-
@windigo also: you put the licence change somewhere viewable? since, as I understand it, all the posts before the change you made, should still be available under the old licence.
-
@windigo also I think in #legal terms there's a problem now :-( this table (1) says: BY-NC-SA can only be adapted again as BY-NC-SA. Thus, you would actually have to ask all your users on that instance to agree to this licence change for those old posts. I changed my #CC licence in the wiki (2) also once, and have thus separated it by time. see an interplay of which licence can be adapted by another here in this table (1). Also, what I think has now gone bad on MFD :-( (1) https://fediverse.com/conversation/517056#notice-522661
