Rocket (rocket@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 26-May-2022 06:56:24 UTC Rocket @Arcana No one admits to leaving because of low pay. However, very few people will take a new job that pays less. Employers are going to have to adapt to the new inflationary environment. If salaries don't keep up, even long time employees will leave. Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this. -
α (sadidas@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 26-May-2022 06:56:44 UTC α @Arcana A good salary will get new employees in the company but it doesn't necessarily keep them. Sometimes no amount of money is worth putting up with shitty management. Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this. -

In the choice between good pay and excellent pay the money is less important and the team, management, growth opportunity and work/life balance could be more important.
Still, of you're in a decent place and another decent place offers more pay, there's no point in leaving money on the table. Money allows you to pay off loans, retire earlier, take more time off, etc. -
Hawk1291 (hawk1291@fosstodon.org)'s status on Thursday, 26-May-2022 07:00:42 UTC Hawk1291 @Arcana as an employer I can say that raising pay has NEVER helped keep an employee and has ALWAYS resulted in worse performance. Contrary to what social media thinks, raising pay does not result in better work. As an employee I have seen the same result in co workers who have had their pay raised, almost always results in less gumption. Reviewing myself is bit harder but I would guess I had the same result.

instead of adding a ping-pong table for employees to use on purported breaks, just let people go home earlier and reduce the amount of hours workedSanta Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this. -
π¦ulon (birdulon@shpposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 26-May-2022 08:23:26 UTC π¦ulon @clacke @Hawk1291 @Arcana Also the problem with pay raises in retaining staff is that they're usually offered way too late. When someone is ready to leave it's often because the working conditions have been inadequate for a long time. You need to be proactive with salary not reactive, and if pay isn't keeping up with inflation and cost of living, it's a pay cut even if the number goes up. Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this. -
Sandra (sandra@idiomdrottning.org)'s status on Monday, 30-May-2022 11:46:50 UTC Sandra @Arcana Thank you! Similar meme is going in in the Swedish nurse shortage. Nurses are super underpaid, and the fact that there are other problems too doesn't change that. Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this.
