@csaurus I also have 2 BananaPis running as mere vpn gateways w/ no issues. And 1 BananaPi as a Wifi VNC thinclient, also no issues.
-
@csaurus Does the !Raspberry Nano no longer depend on proprietary boot files (binary blob) by Broadcom?
-
@csaurus Some time I want to do sth similar: install vanilla !Debian on the !BananaPi (http://qttr.at/1jvv). AFAIK it doesnt need a BLOB.
-
@csaurus just noticed the BananaPi's been tested & confirmed by Debian, along with some others, but they all need a "device tree blob"
-
@csaurus …at least the BananaPi seems to use the stock UBoot bootloader. Regarding the Raspberry Nano I fear you'll have a hard time
-
@csaurus ah ok, I thought of the Raspberry #Zero all the time. (Zero... Nano... )
-
I use the Banana as a vpn gateway& offsite backup server w/ 4x4TB USB disks.System is very stable, apart from occasional issues w/the usb hub
-
@csaurus I think the "classic" M1 BananaPi can do the job for you. Maybe it's not good at video playing but decent for server purposes.
-
@csaurus probably usb connection problems. Disks have their own powersupply . If I don't touch anything→ok. The Banana runs stable but…
-
@csaurus …sometimes (after I've touched cables) one or more disks fall back to USB 1.1 speed.Reconnecting sometimes gets them back to USB2.0
-
@csaurus fortunately we're talking about "mean time between USB problems" of about 100-200 days & the BananaPi itself rarely needs rebooting
-
@csaurus that being said there are more modern alternatives. The BananaPi M1 model I use has been there for 2 or so years now.
-
@csaurus the current #Odroid are also interesting w/ 2 GB RAM and octocore.
-
@csaurus I'm unsure about the newer BananaPi models, there's a quarrel btwn the LeMaker & SinoVOIP manufacturers.
