@alcinnz @technomancy @somarasu i am a big believer in progressive enhancement/ graceful degredation. i think for accessibility all websites *should* work without javascript enabled. (though it’s not yet totally clear to me how to do this with yip.pe. maybe 256 little pull down menus that do a form submit to a script that responds with a png?

node and react broke people’s brains. no one remembers that it’s okay to just not use a framework, build system, or even npm. you can just write plain javascript. no one will yell at you.

@screenbeard i’ll show people how to do this. what’s difficult is finding anyone who’s interested. newrly everyone is either drunk the npm koolaide or wants to get rid of javascript entirely, as if npm hell is a necessary part of the javascript experience

then the outer skin kinda cracks apart revealing the red cap underneath.

looking at this i think it makes more sense for the mushroom cap to invert like an umbrella in wind, than to open up at the top. will have to redo that whole section of animation tho. it’s okay it kinda sucks anyway.

this also suggests a more satisfying path from bud to goomba.

then i suppose toadette’s pigtails would need to become the “plant” “tongue”, and then peach’s feet. right now i have them becoming the leaves and then hair but that logic is just not working out

i sorta imagined koopa spreading spores far and wide as he carries peach to his castle- a kidnapping being part of the natural lifecycle. all the goombas and shyguys toads and pirahna plants along the way are her children.

I have smoothed out some of the more … weirdly ambiguous transitions and added anticipation, follow through squash and stretch frames. And adjusted some of the frame delays. It's amazing how lively those little things can make it feel.

so as i was working from on this it occured to me that i could fit goomba in at the start and have that grow into the super mushroom. but then, that would result in a strange intermediate state where the creature has two faces, one waning on the “cap” and one growing on the body, kind of embarrassing. grotesque.

*gasp* maybe that’s what shy guy looks like under the mask!
