My main issue here of course is I'm adding a complicated fungus/plant symbiosis theory here to explain the gown, when this exists as an actual mushroom: https://giphy.com/gifs/ukCkcURV3rBvwJzBWG
I recently learned about this thing that fruiting bodies have called a Calyx- it's the green leafy like bit at the base of a flower. On some fruit, like apples, the calix grows to form a skin around the fruit. On others like the eggplant/aubergine it becomes the leafy green bit at the base
On tomatillas it forms these elegant little shells.
What if the ruffly side bits. (I don't know what this part of a dress is called) on princess peach are a calyx?
so as i was working from on this it occured to me that i could fit goomba in at the start and have that grow into the super mushroom. but then, that would result in a strange intermediate state where the creature has two faces, one waning on the “cap” and one growing on the body, kind of embarrassing. grotesque.
*gasp* maybe that’s what shy guy looks like under the mask!
I have smoothed out some of the more … weirdly ambiguous transitions and added anticipation, follow through squash and stretch frames. And adjusted some of the frame delays. It's amazing how lively those little things can make it feel. @koosli
i sorta imagined koopa spreading spores far and wide as he carries peach to his castle- a kidnapping being part of the natural lifecycle. all the goombas and shyguys toads and pirahna plants along the way are her children.
then i suppose toadette’s pigtails would need to become the “plant” “tongue”, and then peach’s feet. right now i have them becoming the leaves and then hair but that logic is just not working out
looking at this i think it makes more sense for the mushroom cap to invert like an umbrella in wind, than to open up at the top. will have to redo that whole section of animation tho. it’s okay it kinda sucks anyway.
this also suggests a more satisfying path from bud to goomba.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalix The name Kalix is believed to originate from the Sami word Gáláseatnu, or "Kalasätno", meaning "The cold river" the ancient name of the Kalix River.
@zens Haha. I've got a villain in a story of mine named Kalix -- which is just funnier now because now it's like the tuff, hair-metal name for part of a flower -- like the band Krokus.
