Devine Lu Linvega (neauoire@merveilles.town)'s status on Sunday, 03-Apr-2022 04:25:22 UTC Devine Lu Linvega @cr1901 It takes 40 seconds to assemble asma, if you use the drifblim rom, and assemble the drifblim tal file. How long does it take?

Devine Lu Linvega (neauoire@merveilles.town)'s status on Saturday, 02-Apr-2022 19:21:22 UTC Devine Lu Linvega I seriously hate that the default #uxn rom is a launcher, a way that only lets you launch pre-made programs.
I found this excellent comment the other day that explains this better than I could:
"Early computers were designed from the ground up to be truly general purpose. When you turned them on, you'd be presented with the word READY, and a blinking cursor. It was an open invitation to PROGRAM the machine! This is no mere appliance, it's a beckoning gateway to intellectual discovery!"

Devine Lu Linvega (neauoire@merveilles.town)'s status on Saturday, 02-Apr-2022 18:57:49 UTC Devine Lu Linvega @eris It's a bit shitty because they don't understand the project, and I can't explain it in a way that they can relate.
They're finding that it's all very hand wavey, I'm not sure how to beat it into them that there's a vast chasm between a C compiler and uxn's assembler.
It sucks that people look at something and instead of seeing what it could do, they instantly look for things they can't do. "Oh well, you can't do AI with 64kb, so it's useless"

Devine Lu Linvega (neauoire@merveilles.town)'s status on Saturday, 02-Apr-2022 18:50:34 UTC Devine Lu Linvega @akkartik If you're asking yourself if something is procrastination or learning, it's easy to ask yourself if you had been able to do this a week, a month ago.
But also, it's irrelevant.
It's relevant if you're trying to turn your weird play-computing into a business, or to save the world. But, if it makes you happy and not hurting anyone, I'd start digging to see if there isn't some other pressure telling you to not keep going.
You're allowed to dig into something if it makes you happy.

Devine Lu Linvega (neauoire@merveilles.town)'s status on Saturday, 02-Apr-2022 18:50:34 UTC Devine Lu Linvega @akkartik I've seen you struggling through this for a while now, and it got me to do my own thinking a bit. And I ended up at either of 2 places:
- You're afflicted by the hand-eye dilemma, this usually goes away with time(and work). It's when your technical skills and your capability of knowing how things ought to be mismatch.
- Your goals don't match your approach. By that I mean that you're trying to solve systemic computing problems with individual solution. That tends to lead to burnout. -
