A constant dull roar of thunder and half an hour of continual strobe lights with occasional glorious sharp streaks across the sky.
"Why are you filming this? It's just thunder."
If you grew up here, you have no idea how remarkable this is.

And then you see a bolt of lightning over there and you hear the boom, "Ok, six seconds delay, that was two kilometers away, that's over at Pettersson's place then." -
Charlie Stross (cstross@wandering.shop)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 08:15:16 UTC Charlie Stross @keyboards On the "what the 1982 market demanded, only in 1984" note, Amstrad was a consumer electronics firm and Alan Sugar was not a computer guyβhe hired the design talent in and bought the components obsolescent hence cheap (eg. his giant bulk buy of Sony's also-ran 3" floppy disks and drivesβhe bought their entire manufacturing run when it failed to out-compete the rival 3.5" standard). I think he lacked a feel for the pace of change in computing, which was much faster than in TV/audio.

Honestly, I know core people are very much aware of Guix and collaborate on things, but I don't know how the average Nixer fairs, I'm out of touch for years.
My main point is that GNU has had leadership issues and therefore Guix has actively disentangled itself from that years ago and got things right. I haven't looked at how Aux governance looks.

Bought an XPS13 a few years back and was initially disappointed, but half a year later mainline Ubuntu had caught up and it's been brilliant since.
(in HK they only come with Windows)

It never works, there are always some people doing it anyway. π

Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 06:21:55 UTC Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π The Princedom of Pontecorvo was a short-lived client state of France during the Napoleonic Wars.
Napoleon took it from the Papal State after becoming King of Italy, created it as a princedom and made one of his Imperial Marshals the Prince of Pontecorvo.
The Marshal, Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, was soon headhunted by the Swedish establishment to become Karl XIV Johan, the new King of Sweden, and gave up the princedom. His dynasty formally rules Sweden to this day.
Pontecorvo today has a population of ~13000, the same size population as the bunch of towers on top of a shopping mall where I live.
