Christine Lemmer-Webber (cwebber@octodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Sep-2019 13:43:00 UTC Christine Lemmer-Webber @zig @sheogorath @freemo The worst part is that perfectly good actors in this space are picking it up *without understanding* what the implications of it are, and how broken it is.
We need to articulate that clearly, and fast.

Christine Lemmer-Webber (cwebber@octodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Sep-2019 13:39:21 UTC Christine Lemmer-Webber @zig @sheogorath @freemo I think that the parity license is the most extreme example of a poorly thought through license where the implications of it really aren't understood. And it's perfectly set up for predatory behavior in terms of bad-faith pressuring for relicensing.

Christine Lemmer-Webber (cwebber@octodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Sep-2019 13:00:33 UTC Christine Lemmer-Webber I'm seeing a lot of calls for re-examination of FOSS values. In a sense I agree largely: I've myself been arguing for critical re-examination and re-articulation of FOSS principles. However, I see a lot of people calling for things that have been shown to be broken (the non-composability of CC *-NC and *-ND licenses are an example). That's making me fairly nervous that we're going to undo a lot of the structures that have allowed for collaboration and enter an era of confusion.

In the original editor wars, before Vim, the key argument for Vi is it followed the Unix philosophy... it didn't have a scripting system and didn't need it.
