That’s the baseline that these laws aim to establish.

We don’t have the equivalent of this in virtual space yet. We must have it protected as a base requirement for personhood. That provides a human rights-respecting foundation to build upon.

Whether or not it’s capitalists or socialists or whatnot who want to violate isn’t relevant. That is must not be violated is.

If you want to share them, then sure.

Otherwise, imagine a world where you have no control over whether or not you share your thoughts. They’re public by default.

Cast iron skillets are the best; so glad I found a couple in the homeware store just down the road. Not only are they – contrary to popular belief – easy to maintain (just rub with rapeseed oil or similar and heat to season and use hot water and a towel to clean) but they also add iron into your diet… magic! ;)

You want people to run their own servers? Design and build servers for individuals, not communities and let communities arise from the interconnections between those servers.

Why?

Because that’s the only way we can compete on ease of use with centralised systems. Not by mimicking their complexity but by side-stepping it. There is orders of magnitude difference in complexity between a system designed to serve just one and one designed to serve one, two, or a hundred thousand.

By the way, if you are having trouble signing because your email server implements an archaic anti-spam technique called greylisting. I’m going to look into adding basic support for it but please also contact your email provider and remind them it’s 2022. Spammers have long worked around greylisting. Today, it just makes things harder for legitimate small web use cases.

Finally, a couple of you have reported not being able to add your site if it doesn’t load over a secure connection (TLS).

That’s by design :)

It’s 2022 and we should all be doing our best to encourage good practices. HTTP is not secure. It means people who visit your site could be hit with man-in-the-middle attacks.

Thankfully, we have a free/automated way to implement TLS now with Let’s Encrypt.

And servers like Site.js (https://sitejs.org) do it automatically for you.
