    There’s been a mystery bush growing in one of the planters in the backyard. Today, I figured out that it is probably Punica granatum, based on the flowers 🌸. It is too small to grow edible pomegranates, but it is nice to know.

    Okay, now I've seen unconfirmed reports that PMC Wagner peacefully took control of regional military headquarters in Rostov-na-Donu and military facilities in Voronezh. They're still 500km/300mi away from Moscow, and there's no assurance that the leaders of the Ministry of Defense would be there anyway.

    I just think that to be seen as crossing Putin means Prigozhin's lifespan just shortened considerably, unless this is a maneuver meant to trick Ukraine into over-committing in a battle somewhere.

    I see multiple people talking about civil war in #Russia. From what I can see, the head of #Wagner, a notorious braggart and complainer said some things he should not have said, but I have seen nothing to suggest actual fratricidal fighting.

    Back when I was doing my Master's Degree, we had these group projects. They were definitely not garbage, but the pressure was tough. I used to write most of the project, then send each team member their part to polish and customize.

    We had one project that involved writing a Java application that met certain criteria. Only one of us had professional Java experience, and the rest of us banged our heads on this for the whole week. On the last day, Java pro showed up, submitted the completed project. The instructor could see that he was MIA until 45 minutes before the deadline, so we all got good grades, but Java pro failed the project.

    He complained, but a group project means one should work together with the group, so the grade stood.

    Current courses have these peer-graded assignments. Thus far, they are all garbage. $STUDENT uploads the wrong project. I send a comment that they sent the wrong file. So they resubmit the assignment without any data. Meanwhile, I can't move forward until I grade that specific person's submission. After two days, I just gave them zeroes so I could move on.

    That particular assignment included a mind map that required five top-level and twenty lowest-level boxes, but that wasn't on the assignment page--it was on the upload / submission page.

    Co-worker S called (at 01:00 US-Eastern!) to tell me about her progress with the #Raspberry_Pi Zero I sent.

    She also told me that there have recently been severe thunderstorms from #TX to #FL. Those #t-storms have produced some #tornadoes, too. I knew there had been an alert in #MS because I saw someone there discussing it.

    I sincerely doubt that. You get the marriage subsidy, the child subsidy. If you're paying a mortgage, you get that subsidy. You get a subsidy for your retirement plan. You're already paying substantially less than a similar income single, childless renter.

    I know you're including taxes that the companies pay, whose products and services you buy, but there's no way to estimate what they'd charge you in the absence of taxes, so that's pure speculation.

    A former top IT manager was present at the end, as they gave an award to employee of the year or something.

    There was also a section where they discussed the agency's interpretation of the President's executive order on IT security.

    Walked past the little girl who lives diagonally across the street. I hadn't seen her in at least two years. I remember when the house had signs celebrating her 8th grade promotion (which means she recently finished 10th grade). Wow. She's much taller than me and definitely heavier than me, too.
