    Because it is so destructive to agriculture, #California dept of food and agriculture will be releasing 250K sterile male medflies per week to try and prevent reproduction. I remember walking home at night with one of my brothers after work while helicopters were spraying malathion laced bait to stop an infestation of Mediterranean fruit flies in the #SGV San Gabriel Valley.

    @fu Legislation shouldn't be necessary, as the first sale doctrine should force them to relinquish all control that isn't legally required. Unfortunately, it hasn't been interpreted that way by courts.

    When you buy a device, all ownership and control should become yours, and that includes choosing where to get parts and repairs.

    As far as I am aware, both of my "forever" educational e-mail accounts are gone. The place where I did my master degree seems to have hired outside companies to redo their online presence multiple times. The community college's CIS department cut way back after an instructor's accidental death, including taking down the forever servers.
