@evan Well, he’s doing better than his predecessors in some respects. He’s not caught up visibly in scandal. The overall bureaucracy of the UN system is continuing to function. He’s seemingly not had much luck as a peacemaker.

The UN Secretary General isn’t the President of Earth. They’re the chief bureaucrat of the UN. He’s keeping the place running but it doesn’t seem like he’s on track for any major awards.

@clacke Broadcast syndication is making your own DIY network through striking deals with each individual station. That’s how Space: 1999 was distributed in the USA even though it wasn’t a “network” show. Babylon 5 ran first in syndication before the cable network TNT picked it up. The big two syndicated shows most Americans would be familiar with are Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy as they could be on any TV station regardless of its network affiliation.

As to The Original Series, there is quite a bit of history there. The whole concept of “residuals” didn’t exist yet when those episodes were produced. They could be easily farmed out via syndication then because no further payments to actors was required unlike the situation today. People forget that Star Trek originally ran on NBC for 3 seasons before it hit syndication. It arguably hit more of an audience outside the straitjacket of NBC.

@clacke Ms. Chong has three single albums available for purchase on Amazon Music that I just bought after the musical episode. She’s easier to listen to than many of our American music “stars”.

@steve Is Navier Stokes going to need refactoring with the way things are deteriorating over at the other place?

@steve The learning objectives for my class say I have to talk about social networks. My students were somewhat shocked when I got into the current state of Twitter yesterday. The Pearson textbook the department picked is four years old and talks about it as a vibrant public square. I had to emphasize to them again that nothing is static in the world of computers.

@steve Jack Quaid is supposed to be appearing in Strange New Worlds as Boimler.

@clacke @smkellat Nope, just mas.to. Before then I had spent some time on Quitter as well as being someone from OG Identica and New Identica.

Am I ready to do this shift from mas dot to over to here? We'll see shortly, I suppose.

An #Introduction, perhaps? I write documentation for Xubuntu from time to time. I teach undergraduates at a college from time to time. I live in Ohio, the "heart of it all" here in the USA. I've written some short fiction that is still available to buy on Amazon as part of the mythical long tail of business. Occasionally I preach at church and leave the congregation considering different perspectives than they're used to. I also serve on the county broadband task force to improve service.
