@lnxw48 @mv @lrockhq what do all of you think about splitting !NEF into two organizations, a tech one and a !ccmusic one? The reasons behind this are varied, but basically it looks like Music Manumit is going to end up with a benefit corp/LLC or L3C status. I'm not sure the time frame on that. Tom refuses to give dates on anything.
There is at least one other option to hold things together. NEF could become a creator coop. Where we would base the coop, I don't know. The only state I have even the slightest bit of knowledge of coop law about is Michigan, and it's not a great fit.
It's bedtime here, so I'll respond in morning.

@lnxw48 @lrockhq @mv another question is whether any of you would be willing to be the local agent for NEF. I know Mass has benefit corps. I assume there is good reason to stay out of CA, but perhaps there benefit corp/LLC fees are not high.

a #benefitcorp is essentially different than either though. CA isn't listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-profit_limited_liability_company and I think doing corp instead of LLC is going to be an uphill battle.
I'm not quite ready to give up on having some distinction that says we aren't just another random money-making scheme, but I am quickly approaching that.

@mv in most states you don't even need to receive mail. I know for a fact in Maryland you don't, because I'm a Maryland agent. You just have to give me an address.
