Ironman 2 in 2010 is the first Disney-Marvel film. -

Up until Iron Man, Marvel had been selling off film rights to their popular IPs. But they ran out of stuff popular enough for the studios to be interested in buying.
The wild success of Iron Man is what made Marvel Studios look attractive to Disney.

Your friendly 'net denizen (cstanhope@social.coop)'s status on Friday, 28-Jan-2022 16:52:52 UTC Your friendly 'net denizen @clacke I find it... interesting that Marvel's comic universe was able to be "transocded" into video form so readily once video special effects became capable enough (and when they found the right approach). They'd been trying for years, with minimal success, and then all of a sudden it just started working. It's everywhere now.

It's an ok film. Too much exposition, too much eagerness to show off all these cool environments, but it has great visuals, some cool ideas driven by a standard "oh no the gov I'm working for has a dark secret" plot.
The love story is cardboard and the tension is 97% exposition.
Delevingne is cool. The male protagonist has no charisma and I won't even look up his name.
Still. Ok film. But it's difficult to understand how this can be the same Luc Besson who made The Fifth Element, which is one of the best films ever and which is supposedly the film he made while learning the skills to make this one.

Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Saturday, 29-Jan-2022 01:54:24 UTC Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π There are so many films in the last decade where the director or producer are saying that this is the film I went into filmmaking to do, but I had to wait 30 years before the technology allowed it.
Not all of them turn out good, sadly.
Oh, maybe that's what I should watch for tonight's movie. I'll watch Valerian. -
Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π (clacke@libranet.de)'s status on Saturday, 29-Jan-2022 01:55:36 UTC Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π It disturbed me that the supposed protagonist slaughtered enemies and innocent bystanders and allowed allies to be slaughtered without the slightest remorse or even a comment, even abused the predicament of an underprivileged character to gain their skills and then got them killed too. And the only thing his love interest has against him is that he had many fleeting partners before?
Another thing that disturbed me is that this interstellar marvel of a space station has traveled ... 700 million miles? That doesn't even take them past Saturn.

I thought maybe people didn't like it because it was too complex or because there were too many aliens or they don't understand time travel, dimensional travel or French comics, but ... no, it's just not that amazing a movie, especially on the emotional plane.
