Iranian court orders LINE, WhatsApp, and Tango be blocked http://qttr.at/goj
#Freedom #IM
- @mcscx@quitter.se repeated this.

@hannes2peer @mmn With better support for DM, Qvitter / GNUsocial could be an alternative for blocked IM services in Iran… @mxj

Imho they should use #XMPP instead. There are a multitude of XMPP clients designed to be interoperable with Tor, to use #OTR etc. etc. cc: @hannes2peer @mxj

I see !gnusocial more as an open discussion forum rather than a private messaging service at least. It will disseminate information well, but that also implies not bothering very much about protecting the content. cc: @hannes2peer @mxj
(but I understand that your point is to _make_ it protect private message content for example, and that'd probably be best accomplished by adhering to the Diaspora* protocol)

It's a good thing WhatsApp is blocked. It's a horrible, insecure and proprietary bastard mutant and does not deserve users. Especially not ones in censor states.

@mmn Maybe we can use XMPP (+ XMPP server on the GS instances) but the main thing is having the feature integrated in the GS web ui
-
@mmn I also see GS more as an open discussion platform. DM is sort of nice to have - but it would bring more users who'd also use open talk

@tuttle are you saying you can access private groups using rss without being a group member?
