     Inter-instance politics are one thing, if an instance doesn't want to federate with everybody, their choice, but I would say protocol level breaks are unacceptable and should be treated as critical bugs.

     @cereal @fl0wn @hermeslispegistus As far as I'm concerned, Mastodon has done two good things:
     
     1. Caused development of GS and Qvitter to kick off again.  I'm subscribed to both repos, and there's a flurry of activity in both now.
     
     2. Brought significantly more Japanese artists to the Fediverse (Pixiv→Pawoo and NicoNico→friends\.nico).

     Everything since then has been occurring on an informal basis, GS maintainers and admins reaching consensus mostly on the network itself.
     
     A formalization and correction of the spec would be nice. @maiyannah is working on documenting the ground truth as part of her work on #postActiv.
     
     I intend to take the original spec and at least make it readable, references and all: https://social.heldscal.la/notice/1868749
     
     That could be the basis of an updated spec.

     @xj9 Could have sworn I said the words "test suite" in that discussion. Maybe it was on #matrix.
