I know this is crazy to Drupal fans, but some people role play things they don't actually really believe, in their sex life.
- Hallå Kitteh repeated this.

@moonman Like PHP being a good language for a CMS?
I guess I'm missing a reference here.
-
@moonman Well that was surprisingly googlable.

@clacke there's a better article about this on inc.com by sonya mann that explains the controversy imo more neutrally than anyone else and brings together almost all (public) info.
-
@moonman That's what the reddit convo is about. It's a good article.
"some people role play things they don't actually really believe" doesn't really seem to apply. Not saying it was right to kick him out though.

@clacke I Think someone could do the same thing to me, dig out something I wrote 10-20 years ago on usenet and attack me for it today when my ideas on things have changed quite a bit (in fact this exact thing happened to someone I know.)
-
@moonman His response here is very clear, if you take his word for it. But his actions seem to support it too.

The "role play things they don't actually really believe" counterevidence I meant is http://web.archive.org/web/20071207032540/http://www.goreanwhispers.com/logs/2003/sep22-03.html . I think that seems pretty sucky, but it's still only about how he likes a close pair relationship, and not how he treats people outside that relationship.
I hope this case makes people think. I've seen queer people on Twitter defending him, because they're worried what other unusual personal preferences people might sneer at next time.

@clacke I read a while back about interracial couples who did so-called "race-play" being kicked out of BDSM groups because in essence it had been argued that it cannot even be done ethically in the privacy of your own bedroom, so knowing that certain people do or defend the right to do it in private have incompatible values with social justice and therefore must be removed. A couple of years back a socialist group imploded because of an argument over this issue. I forget who said it but in the 70s somebody said once a movement starts telling you how you can fuck, it is time to abandon that movement.

@moonman @clacke The weather underground people forced people to participate in orgies to destroy the relationships they had outside of the organization. Controlling sexuality really is a powerful social tool.
-
@clacke imo if this type of decision stands, I think it's a hair's breadth away from justifying the state taking kids out of homes where parents have poly or bdsm relationships.
-
@lambadalambda @moonman Wow.
-
@moonman @clacke this is why i try to change my online identity wherever i go. i'm glad i was born too late to use my irl name on usenet, and too early to be on facebook
-
@why @clacke thats why I use pseudonyms also, you dont know if 20, 10, 1 years ago will crucify you for something that used to be totally acceptable. people don't care about fairness.
-
@why @clacke btw I know people personally who insist they were always in favor of gay marriage but I know for a fact they opposed it becase I remember the conversations (I supported it since 1994 when clinton signed the unconstitutional "defense of marriage act")
-
@why @moonman I'm too leaky about myself to believe it is possible in my case to have isolated online personas, as an example I mix up my various e-mail addresses all the time. But I understand why people who are able to would do it. :-)

@lambadalambda @moonman Tfw orgies mandatory.
