The way I measure my "success" on the #Fediverse is the quality of the conversations I have here. Not the number of followers or likes/boosts. Today was a very successful day in that regard :)
@thelovebug As its is #OpenHardware, given enough interest, it is also not really a big problem to manufacture them anywhere. But the logistics (and price) of that approach is a Very Different Thing. Also, TBH, it could use an upgrade to a newer ESP version that adds Bluetooth and maybe even NFC for even more fun :)
@thelovebug Yes, you'll need a friend in Czechia to buy them and somehow get them shipped to you. I was lucky, as a colleague brought it with him from his last trip there.
PSA: Here, in the #fediverse, hashtags enjoy almost the same privileges as „real“ accounts. Meaning you can simply follow a hashtag to get more content and find more people to add to your timeline. This also means that when you add a hashtag to your toots, you might get noticed more too. However, don’t overdo it. I limit myself to 2-3 hasthtags per toot and often post without any hashtag at all. #LifeHack
My mother complained about the headphones of my father being too loud. So I gave him my AKG K52. Not only is my mom very happy as they are closed headphones so she doesn't have to deal with his sound spilling over, my dad is also really happy as the K52 sound so much better and are way more comfortable to wear than his old Philips cheapo cups that were sent to the trash. Finally, I used this as an excuse to get the AKG K92 and boy, am I happy. They sound So. Damn. Good. :)
Going to start a link collection of parametric 3D models that use OpenSCAD. Too many good things out there are unfortunately using Fusion3D, which is not really an open alternative, IMHO. But some real gems exist in the OpenSCAD world. This parametric #gridfinity collection for example, that you can customise simply in your browser with an account at Makerworld. Or on your own machine with OpenSCAD.
The absence of an algorithm to feed your timeline on the #fediverse means that your timeline will be radically different from mine. What your „bubble“ surfaces might never show up on my timeline. That’s a good thing. Influencers that profit from The Algorithm simply don’t exist here. But connections do. When you and me have enough overlap in the people we follow, we will see similar things. That’s both good and bad at the same time. 1/2
I don’t know why this is so hard to understand. 2014 Russia invaded and occupied Crimea and some folks told us to let them have it so there will be peace. A few years later they invade again and now these same folks (and even more, because now it suddenly IS a war) say the same thing. “Let Russia have it so we can have peace”. Russia wants all of Ukraine and then even more. Why do so many people not understand this?
IMHO: #Mozilla is repeating the #OpenAI process. A growing conflict between community driven/focused products and greedy managers thinking more VC (Venture Capital) style as they become more and more decoupled from the humble origins. This conflict will explode (I mean — asking for donations while the managers take home millions has a weird smell to it) soon and money will win (again). It's really a shame in this case.
@wowolff My neighbour has to park his shiny new car outside as its simply too big for his garage :) His anger attack when he found out was actually quite funny to watch from a safe distance :)
Especially that they became wider is a problem, as the width of streets hasn’t grown accordingly. This is a problem I’ve noticed over the years. Cars *are* closer to me when I ride my bicycle on bike lanes that are just marked, not physically separated from car lanes.
(It’s really funny to read the excuses in the replies that people come up with. „It was the smallest Benz!“ - Yes, but compared to other cars of that time it *was* quite big. Not huge, but still a Benz. „Family vans have always been bigger too!“ - yep. And Trucks are even bigger ;) Accept the simple truth. Cars have in general become bigger, especially wider. Parking spaces have grown with that. Cars occupy more and more space in cities and that doesn’t make a lot of sense.
